1 year ago Negative experience: My mind is truly boggled by all the glowing reviews Hannells Chaddesden has received on Google as my own experience was far from it. My review is based on my own personal opinion and experience, I'm confident that Hannells will post a response somehow defending their service but my hope is if at least one person reads this and second guesses using Hannells for their needs then this will be worth it. My Brother and myself found ourselves in the position of having to sell our recently passed Mum's house and chose Hannells due to reputation and proximity. Neither my brother or myself live in the UK at this point so we hoped we would find someone who would help us through a traumatic time and understand that our situation was unique. From the beginning it seemed normal and a relatively good start ( I personally thought the photo's they took of the house were a low standard ), the house did sell fairly quickly and thats when the problems began. The biggest issue we found with Hannells is communication, they're terrible at it. All I asked from the very beginning is that due to time differences ( I live in the US ) and geography that any communications from Hannells would include both myself and my brother. I very quickly found that to not be the case and was relying on pushing to get quick answers to questions that I had and not have to bug my brother constantly, even after specifically asking to ensure i was on all Communications by email , they constantly dropped the ball to the point where I called the Branch Manager ( From the USA to the UK which was inconvenient ) Michelle and just asked for consistent communication, and was told " we can't promise that" !! It's EMAIL !!! I'm not asking to re-write legislation. I'm asking that if there is anything pertaining to the sale of our house that the employee sending the email make sure to include both parties on the email, she told me they would "Try their best" but couldn't guarantee !! Also I quickly find that they screen their calls and it's very hard to get hold of someone if you want a quick answer. You generally speaking have to leave a message and hope you get a quick call back. There were many other issues mostly coming down to communication that could have been handled much better, Google only allow me so much space to write so if anyone wants a detailed account of how Hannells failed to handle this transaction professionally and efficiently they're welcome to contact me directly through here. This would be a one star review, but the house ultimately did sell, albeit with many last minute wrinkles that partly could have been handled better by Hannells and some that admittedly were out of their control. In fact my Brother happened to be home when the buyer came to see the house so really Hannells can't get credit for the sale, my brother was the one who "Sold the house" If I can sum it up. If you live local and are able to actually go to the office you'll probably be fine. If you have any situation that's considered " out of the ordinary / unique " such as our situation....maybe investigate a different company and possibly get your expectations out there ahead of time and ensure they're met.

1 year ago Negative experience: Here to congratulate the new owner of the house I had my offer accepted for and a damp survey booked in by that same agency. I understand ethics in business may be a thing of a past for some hence will certainly not be coming back. 11Nov24, in response to Benjamin Brain: Hi Ben, Many thanks for taking your time addressing my review. I can't argue, I was not impressed by the way that process was handled. The agency's decision along with having 3 of my emails ignored and 2 unreturned phone calls did not leave the best aftertaste. In regards to the survey, I can't really comment on how exactly it was ordered as your colleague's email said 'I have arranged for the damp inspection', hence I have assumed that has been the case. Finally, after having my offer increased, I have never heard back from Hannells. I have however found out from the Rightmove that the property has already been sold to someone else.

To provide some additional context: when you initially submitted your offer, our team clearly explained that proof of funds and identification documents were required to move forward. As part of our standard process, we’re legally obligated to verify these documents before marking any property as sold, and until we receive them, the property remains available to other buyers.
As we did not receive the necessary documentation from you in a timely manner, another buyer was able to provide it and secure the property.
Regarding the damp survey, we would like to clarify that this was arranged independently, and not on our advice. As soon as we became aware of your survey plans, we advised you to cancel it to avoid unnecessary expenses.
We understand that missing out on a property is frustrating. Please rest assured that we handled this process in line with industry regulations and with transparency, and that our actions were both ethical and fair to all parties involved.

2 years ago Negative experience: Appalling service with no considering to trading ethics. Booked to view a property, provided appointment in 2 days time. On the day received contact from Hannells to say viewing would have to be re-arranged due to unforseen circumstances. Provided next appointment 3 days later. On the day of the appointment I called the office to request epc to be emailed over, received within minutes, told best of luck with viewing. Viewing time 2pm, recieve call at 1.20pm to be told vendor has accepted an offer and property is off the market. I appreciate vendor has every right to accept an offer on the table, but get the feeling that potential buyers are being delayed to view properties to favour others. This is not the first time this has happened with Hannells.

The process of marketing our property was made very easy with the local knowledge and expertise of Jo, always followed up with excellent communication with Aimee and Mya in the office. 2 years ago Fantastic experience: Amazing!! All staff have been very thoughtful and kind both in allestree and in chaddessden branch. Selling my grandads house and my mums house, grandad having to move due to palliative care and mum down sizeing after losing husband. Every member of staff have been so kind and thoughtful in the process. Both properties sold very quick.less than 4 weeks for both. Hannels could not of done more if they tried! Will be using when sell my house! Special thanks to Bonnie in allestree who my grandad was very grateful for when showing potential buyers around and the care shown to him and his house and Lorna in chaddesden for her care and understanding to mum and myself.

2 years ago Negative experience: I have friends and family buying and selling houses through Hannells and they sound appalling. I used them in the past and thought they were ok and recommended them. But the stories I've heard, and the rudeness of the girls in the Chaddesden office, I am really surprised at. They've had my friends and family in tears, they are so unsympathetic. Buying and selling is very stressful for the people involved and this needs to be considered, abit of empathy goes a long way.Its put me off wanting to use them again.

We're concerned, and quite surprised, by the rest of your comments as the team there pride themselves on being helpful, professional and friendly - which has been pointed out numerous times in other reviews left by customers - and your own previous experience.
You're absolutely right, buying and selling a property can be a stressful experience - there are a number of third-parties involved, of which we have no control over and the process can take a long time - but the team there have decades of experience and, from what we see and hear, have worked hard to earn a great reputation locally.
With no specific examples referenced and this review being written based on what you've heard, rather than what you've personally experienced, it's hard to comment either way on what the experience of your friends and family has been - but we certainly hope (and the team will be making sure) that any future experiences they have with Hannells will be much more positive.
We hope that should you require the services of a local estate agent in the future, you'll consider Hannells at Chaddesden and they'll have the opportunity to change your mind again!

2 years ago Fantastic experience: My experience of Hannells in Chaddesden has been absolutely positive from my first initial approach requesting information about selling my 92 year old aunt's bungalow to the present time of moving into completion of sale. I was greeted warmly and had explained to me the whole process involved in a very professional and knowledgeable manner. The valuation was equally positive. Throughout the continuing experience i have received really good informative communications regarding viewing and feedback from staff who have excellent customer service skills and know their subject! My particular contact has been Mya who has kept me updated every step of the way. I have also had communications from Lorna. Both assets to Hannells.
