Fantastic experience: I recommend Spencers unreservedly. The entire team was professional, committed and effective. My main contact was Lizzie, but everyone, from Olivia's evaluation onwards, was excellent. Not only did they ensure my house sale, but they were compassionate and human throughout the whole process, especially when things were stressful (not always the case from other agents). If you're selling in Sheffield and surrounds, you'd do well to choose this team.

Fantastic experience: Spencer was the estate agent for our house purchase. The initial conversations with the team were good and clear. When it came to the nitty-gritty of the purchase process Lizzie Baker was simply amazing - especially through a stressful journey. She was helpful, gave salient advice, and was professional throughout. The main issue we encountered with the purchase was with our rubbish solicitors and also with Spencer's customer - the seller - being unable to take responsibility for: lack of building control; providing false information on the PIF about work having taken place; denying work had been done; providing false information from builders; unable to explain who had lined her fireplace chimney (subsequently found out to be incompetently done, dangerous, which we then had relined); any building work she had done had dangerous electrical issues (oven, extractor and hob wired to a melting double socket, no correct fire rated downlights, ring splits, multiple circuits on one breaker and a very outdated fuse board (which she saw no issue with despite herself haggling for money off on her onward purchase for the same thing); an incorrectly converted basement section of the kitchen including a supporting wall knocked down all denied, which we knew would have to be redone) and also denying that there was a problem with the hot water tank which continued to leak after purchase (amongst other things). Ironically, in her review of Spencers the seller made mention of Spencers being helpful "explaining things to her buyers". The seller was an awful person, who thought she was right all the time, had no insight, was rude and then resorted to pressure tactics to get around a reduction in price or acknowledge real issues (despite being a Uni Professor who had authored a book on Politeness!). She also lied about having offered on an onwards purchase and then when she did she was a in a pressured time trap of her own making that she then pushed onto us, as was was never going to admit or resolve building control or other issues that anyone's survey would have picked up. Everything was a "maintaince issue", rather than a major issue, was her pressure tactic. As we actually wanted the house, and knew the actual state of things we proceeded, (nothing to do, as the seller thought, due to Spencer's handling of it or because the seller was right/we were wrong/she thought she had resolved). Spencers were good at communicating with us, even when we had to politely inform the seller that she was lying and also denying any problems that had been reported by third party tradespeople. Spencers (and Lizzie's) friendly approach and actually treating us as people made all the difference during a stressful purchase. The whole team were responsive and good at communicating.

Fantastic experience: We used Spencer’s in 2024 and 2025 and are extremely happy with the service on both occasions. The service was professional but also personally tailored to our needs. Living overseas, it was essential to have good comms and a responsive point of contact. We were dealing with very difficult situations (a family member with dementia) and Spencer’s went the extra mile (and continue to do so, months after the sales) to make things work. Negative experience: I recently enquired about a newly listed property through Spencer Estate Agents. I called just a few hours after it was added to the market. Julie took all my details and my preferred viewing time, explaining she would contact the vendor to confirm and update me. Shortly after, I received an email saying the vendor had requested viewings be suspended and that I would be informed when they resumed. However, only an hour later the listing was updated as “Sold.” This experience felt very disappointing and lacked transparency. The communication gave the impression that viewings would be arranged, only for the property to be marked as sold almost immediately afterwards. It left me feeling misled and frustrated. I would caution others to be aware of this type of experience and would not recommend this agency based on my interaction.

Fantastic experience: We sold through Saxton Mee and bought through Spencers. And while we had a positive experience by and large with Saxton Mee, Spencers really went the extra mile for their vendor and buyer (us). Lizzie, Chloe and the team were super friendly, knowledgeable and able to steer us in the right direction. If we ever come to sell the house we've just moved into, we'll definitely be using Spencers next time.

Fantastic experience: Spencer Estate Agent (and thanks to Meg in particular) helped to push through what proved to be an elongated sales process involving a leasehold property that I was selling while remote from Sheffield. Fantastic experience: We used Spencer Estate Agent 10 years ago to sell my Fathers house and they were great. Then my sister used them to successfully sell her house 3 years ago. It seemed natural that we used them to sell my Mothers flat last year. Nevertheless, we did check and their fees were still competitive. The team at Ecclesall Road were fantastic. Lizzie came beforehand to give us some much needed suggestions about how to present an empty flat and some sensible advice about pricing to sell. She communicated with us, keeping us fully informed, and she was efficient, offering reassurance during the whole process. We were very pleased with the result. Even though we were the buyers of the property she was very proactive and chased up both solicitors on our behalf when she felt that things were stalling. Negative experience: Spencer’s seems to excel in regards to selling houses and rental agreements as seen in other reviews. However, the staff and landlords they manage will attempt to avoid any sort of responsibility for serious living issues such as mould, leaks, etc. They repeatedly ignored requests for repairs and support and tried to pin serious design flaws on ourselves and previous tenants despite the obvious inadequacies in apartment ventilation and build quality. Only council intervention and threat of action was enough to warrant a sufficient response. I would not rent with Spencer’s again due to the seeming complete apathy of their office staff.

Fantastic experience: We recently used Spencer’s to sell my mothers home and from the very first visit by their valuer, during the viewings and until the final transaction and handing over the keys to the new owner, they were an amazing organisation to deal with. Selling your old family home is never easy but all of the staff were always professional and totally understanding of our situation. Negative experience: It is difficult for me grasp how Spencer’s and there associated landlord felt comfortable charging me and my partner to live in an apartment that did not meet safe living standards. Me and my partner were repeatedly blamed (and even lied to) in regard to our apartment with extreme levels of black mould. This mould and damp lead me to have health consequences that even my workplace recognised. After months of back and forth we were still refused to be supported in any way, and were even told if we wanted to leave we would have to pay the landlord hundreds of pounds. We were then left with no choice but to involve the council, who quickly agreed that there was a complete lack of ventilation in our apartment and that we were not to blame. Following this, we ended up having an early end to the tenancy (without the high fee originally enforced by Spencer’s). It is also worth mentioning that other maintenance issues that present there upon moving in (windows that leak water, a balcony door that we were advised not to open, which would leave us no access to the balcony we were paying for) were not fixed within the time of our entire tenancy. I have email evidence to back up my claims and I am happy to share them with anyone who is considering working with Spencer’s.

Fantastic experience: Spencer did a fantastic job with my recent flat sale. Would highly recommend! Meg especially went above and beyond during the sale process. Excellent communication throughout - always fast to respond and helped to chase whenever things were slowing down. Thank you Meg for making a stressful process as pain-free as possible! The photos and listing were also fab. I will definitely be using Spencer for all sales in the future.

Fantastic experience: We recently sold our house with Spencer’s and they did a great job. At each stage of the process they exceeded our expectations from the initial valuation (and delivering a sale price that was over the asking price) through to completion. They were super communicative (special thanks to Lizzie who was excellent throughout) and we always felt like things were moving along and that we knew what was happening - we never had to chase them for updates once which has been the case previously with different estate agents. In addition, we’d put time and care into designing our home and right from the initial meeting we felt like they really understood our style which meant that they were able to bring in buyers who also appreciated the same things. Fantastic experience: From the very first contact everyone we spoke to was professional, helpful and friendly. Negative experience: Lettings: Unfortunately Spencer's lettings team are very good at getting the letter agreed but not at ongoing rental management. Every repair will be require a couple of months of chasing, and will be completed with the cheapest possible solution, resulting in serious damage that could have been avoidable. I'd recommend any landlord to seriously consider other options for the sake of their property.

Fantastic experience: Spencer's managed to do what we thought was the impossible. We initially launched our property for sale with another agent that claimed they sold more properties in our area than anyone else... this turned out to be untrue and we wasted 6 months on the market with little interest. By chance a friend of ours wholeheartedly recommended Spencer's so we took a chance on them and are SO HAPPY we did. They managed to sell our property on the first viewing within a WEEK of going live. We have just completed and cannot recommend these guys enough. Their service is impressive with a really detailed portal to track marketing, interest and offers. We'd recommend them to anyone and most certainly will use them again when needed. Thank you!!

Fantastic experience: I've had a great experience with Spencer. I met with a few estate agents when looking to sell my flat and Spencer really stood out with their professional, personable, honest (and non-pushy!) approach. Blatant sales pitches can feel a bit off-putting, especially when you're selling your home, so I really appreciated Hayley Kennedy's authenticity when she came to value my place. I bought the same flat from Spencer back in 2020, so it was an easy decision when I'd experienced them from a buyer's perspective, too! They were super quick to get my flat on the market and communicated with me every step of the way. Meg Hudson and Khloe Kingsley were very helpful and I always got through to somebody if I had any questions. Spencer's online portal is really easy to use and they checked in with me throughout the sale. Having compared prices of a few, I can say Spencer are competitive and worth every penny - I'd recommend them to anybody!

Positive experience: I purchased my home through Spencer’s and also viewed some of their other properties. It was a really great experience overall, I would certainly engage with them first the next time I’m looking to buy. Meg who was handling my home purchase was always quick to respond and look into things for me whenever things were moving a little slow. She was brilliant! The only reason I’m not giving them 5 stars is because I felt like one of the account managers (don’t know her name) was a little rude when I requested a second viewing of the property I purchased, maybe she thought I was a time waster because my first offer was a bit low. Outside this encounter my experience with Spencer’s was very very positive overall!

You feel you are a known person and in fact having the super efficient and ever cheerful and positive Meg as the negotiator is like having a friend handling the sale for you. She was always at the end of the phone and her advice was really helpful and re-assuring especially as I had never sold a property before and I was impressed from the start when she came personally to view it. I did my own viewings and here again the office was very proactive and supportive.
