Fantastic experience: *Forgive the username I was in a difficult situation where I could have been seriously unstuck if not for Harrington’s, their helpful presence and support was maintained throughout everything that took place with them. I have had 2 prior experiences with rival estate agents in Durham and can wholeheartedly say that Harrington’s is by far head and shoulders above the rest. Would 100% recommend to anyone student or otherwise to go to Harrington’s first to sort out housing. In particular Anya helped me out monumentally with the viewings and the difficult spot I was in.

Negative experience: I am surprised to see so many good reviews. My experience is of a company that doesn't care for the students. We have been paying rent since 1st of July, the rent includes internet. It's now October and still no internet and no date given for installation. My child has complained on there official system, via the phone, via email and even in person but Harringtons just don't seem to care. We are in the process of taking the complaint to the ombudsman as the contract clearly states internet will be provided from 1st July. Having no internet makes completing university work impossible and is causing a huge amount of stress.

Fantastic experience: My son and I were so grateful for Anya’s help on the day he moved into his student house. Our journey from London to Durham was delayed by heavy traffic and several closures on the A1, so we didn’t arrive until after 6pm. Although the office closed at 5pm, we phoned ahead and Anya kindly offered to meet us to hand over the keys. When we reached the property, however, the keys didn’t work. We called Anya, and without hesitation she went to collect a new set from the office and then drove over to meet us. Without her support, we would have been completely stuck with nowhere to stay. The house is newly refurbished so all new appliances, kitchen, bathroom etc. The garden was very overgrown as the house has been empty for a few months but Anya told us she'd arrange for that to be sorted out this week. We were really impressed by her willingness to go the extra mile for us and highly recommend her.

Negative experience: always a bad experience, but i put up with them because no one else has houses in durham. First i didn’t get the house that i wanted, so I switched up houses after an argument. then since the other house was empty when i called them to get the room i want, they assigned me by themselves me to the smallest room in the house even though it was all empty at first, idky but they seem really racist towards me… they’re put up to be very nice, but i have always suffered with them… really mean and bad customer service. no empathy at all.

Negative experience: If you’re a university student DO NOT go with this agency, they’re terrible, never got anything fixed for our house, so rude and passive aggressive. Would not give our money back from our deposit until we had to go through the deposit government scheme to apply and then got it all back from that! Honestly terrible! They just want money and don’t care about students.

Negative experience: AVOID - Absolute joke of a company Horrific lettings company, avoid at all costs. Actual reviews can be read after scrolling through the 60 FAKE 5 star bot reviews that have all mysteriously appeared in the last month to hide their awful true rating. I urge all students to sign with another company, Harringtons have been terrible throughout the tenancy. The maintenance portal is atrocious, with almost half of the requests getting ignored, and when they are attended to this company has the cheek to try and charge tenants for it, despite paying NINE HUNDRED pounds a month. There are reports of deposits taken without proof over claims of lost inventory, however the ironic thing is after requesting an inventory Harringtons couldn't provide one. The greed from these people is unprecedented and they will try to take your money no matter what, while providing next to nothing in return. If you want to look at real reviews, please sort by 'lowest' and not 'newest' because Harringtons has tried to hide their laughably bad rating with fake reviews, which is just downright embarrassing and shows how unprofessional they are as a company. I would give 0 stars if it were possible, and I would recommend to everyone to go nowhere near Harringtons for your student housing.

Negative experience: I originally gave an empty review but instead of dropping another story about how this company screwed us students over, let's just look at how this company actively tries to reply long-winded paragraphs in response to every single negative review knowing Google does not allow replies, not to mention often with a belittling attitude. I mean I literally placed my 1-star review 3 months ago and they've just decided to reply. This is not normal behaviour for a company which is confident in its services! I'd also like to point out that there is blatant fake reviews which can be garnered sheerly from seeing how the rating of this place has huge swings back up near 5 stars and yet 1-star reviews keep racking up. To any tenants having their deposit screwed over, please use the MyDeposits dispute function after your tenancy - we were able to get hundreds out of our stolen deposit returned because Harrington's made numerous false claims, and they are also too incompetent to build a case.

Positive experience: I lived in Harringtons property between November 2023 to June 2024. The two single rooms apartment was quite expensive. (£473 per room without bills) I desperately needed a place at this time for risk of being homeless, as an international student from Africa, in a society that has less regards for humanity. The two small rooms were in good condition, safe for moulds and wet walls. Harringtons's maintenance team deserves accolades, as issues with the property when reported using fixflo were quickly resolved and fixed. However, at the point of leaving Harringtons property, I ensured that the house was thoroughly cleaned. Literally, it was tidied with the help of friends, and I even went as far as cleaning the window and washing the curtains of the other room which for obvious reasons remained unoccupied until I left. Still, Harringtons devised a reason to deduct £96 from the £500 deposited. It was not a lot of money to be fair, but they NEVER nurture the intentions of returning your full deposits. Will I recommend Harringtons to my friends? Yes. So far as you can let go of your deposit, because it is never intended to be returned. Unfortunately, you can't dispute it anywhere either, because in my opinion, the so-called Deposit third-party agency is actually Harringtons itself.

Negative experience: Should be embarrassed renting house in the state it is. Owned by the director of this letting agent - tried to hide the fact he was the owner. No carpets in the house bare floorboards in most of it. Mould appeared on the bedroom wall. Cheapest furniture and curtains from charity shops (still had the £2.50 price on the curtains). Tried to keep a lot of the deposit on allegedly broken furniture. Got it back when went to dispute. Has the director got no shame.
