Fantastic experience: Simon is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to specific areas and locations, booking viewings has been quick and easy. Agents are proffesional and always on time, Simon gives paper brochures for the properties which really helps to have to hand when talking about houses after viewings, rather than always having to go online. Charters have been a good estate agent to work with, dealing with queries quickly and always available to help.

Negative experience: Not great to let from took weeks to sort issues like fridge freezer tripping power, pretty sure issue was just blocked drainage leaking out botton as water pooled underneath but the crook contractor they sent without even opening it up said it needed replacing...,then replaced expensive american style fridge freezer with ice maker with a smaller cheap no ice making one... Took months to get back to us regarding deposit then kept entire deposit when with BS reasons like we broke dishwasher which worked perfectly, said we didn't clean carpets when we had them done. Won't rent from them again.

Fantastic experience: Charter's have been great. They have our their money where their mouth is and done exactly what they promised. They managed to sell me flat before it was even officially on the market for exactly what I wanted. Their communication has been second to none and I have always received a very welcoming response from anyone I have spoken with. Although they are at the higher end of the average cost, it has been completely worth it and I am more than satisfied so far with there services.

Fantastic experience: WOW 5 star ++ I will say without a doubt. I found my dream home on sale with Charters, I then used Charters to sell my home. I felt reassured when they viewed my home that they would go all out to sell my property so that I wouldn't lose the house of my dreams. They are a little bit more expensive but I will say that they are definitely worth it for smooth sailing and less stress. Worth every penny. I have also agreed to use the solicitors they recommended. I have every faith in Charters. Their advise was absolutely spot on. They stuck by their commitment to me. Moving can be so stressful through communication between different estate agents. If you find a house you love that is selling through Charters then go with them to sell your property aswell. Don't think twice. Go with Charters either way. They are amazingly proactive and they pulled out all the stops to get me a solid reliable sale. Everything achieved in one week. You can't beat that i don't think. If you selling and not sure who to go with then spend a bit more on commission to the agent as you will get a lot back for that. Cheapest can sometimes cost you more. They have to be top runners as an agent

Negative experience: I am very disappointed with the way this company handles deposit returns. I have been waiting for my deposit to be refunded for over three weeks now, even though the landlord approved the full return on August 12th and I received an email confirming this. The refund process should have been much quicker, but due to the clear inefficiency and lack of responsiveness from the staff, I am still waiting. This level of service is completely unacceptable, and it shows a lack of professionalism and respect for tenants. I would not recommend this company based on my experience.

Negative experience: Called many times to try & faciliate the return of a rental deposit. Told that the end of tenancy team would get back to me - Nothing. Just lies, apparently they are busy, well SO AM I. Will be taking legal action soon. Renters beware! Looking at the other comments we're clearly not the only ones.

Negative experience: Misleading Information and Poor Experience I had a disappointing experience with Charters Estate Agents. I was given incorrect and misleading information regarding one of the property . I thought these people are very professional but unfortunately, that was not my experience. I feel the service fell well below acceptable standards.

Fantastic experience: Right from the outset, after the initial meeting with Phil Northover, everything went very well. Phil gave us a great summary of what the best price would be. During the photo session, we were receiving offers on the property and accepted an asking price offer. After we had accepted the offer Jo Goddard was assigned to us to progress the sale and kept in contact throughout, keeping us updated and liaising between the buyers, us and the solicitors. Fantastic experience: Ask for Harry Fisher if you’re looking for rental. I didn’t end up going with this company in the end but Harry was very professional from my dealings with him over 10 days or so. Harry is on it and has great people skills, very refreshing.

Negative experience: Maybe the worst run agency in Southampton. Had a viewing booked at a property for 1:45pm, the agent was late by 10 minutes and asked if he could see a couple that was booked in AFTER me or if I wanted to view at the same time. Complete joke and no way to run a group of viewings. Stay very clear from Charters

Negative experience: Vacated my rental property in Southampton in middle of March after 6 years. Landlady confirmed she had initiated the process for release of deposit Friday 21st March. 11th still no receipt which must all be down to Charters inability to return it as contact was finally received from Rimi Tumas, End of Tenancy Manager, on Wednesday 2nd April asking for bank details and promising return within 3 to 5 days, I chased again after 7 days had passed and still nothing after 9 days, you should never promise something that you don’t then deliver on. £1,800 is a lot of money they are taking a long time to return. Next week they will be in breach of the least agreement for which it will be necessary to take action against the landlady who is clearly not at fault. I would not recommend Charters as a letting agent.

Negative experience: Renters be aware - Charters were great right up until the end of the tenancy (as is often the case with letting agents) when they tried to deduct ~£360 from my deposit. Fortunately I know the legalities around “end of tenancy professional cleaning” (FYI not ever required unless contract states this or if it was conducted at start of tenancy) and took lots of photos when I left. I ended up getting my full deposit back with 0 deductions but only because of the evidence (pictures taken upon leaving the property of every room, floor, worktop etc.) and their incorrect reporting that I was able to question them on. I am still leaving just a 1 star review because of their unreasonable attempt of trying to claw back £360 for 0 justified reasons and if they were just honest from the start, I wouldn’t have had to challenge the deductions which has unfortunately left a sour taste. If you are due to rent a property with Charters, don’t let them intimidate you, be sure to always argue any deductions and take lots of photos. I would also recommend you read the check in and check out report very carefully and if you notice anything incorrect tell Charters straight away so you don’t fall victim to these money grabbers

Negative experience: If you are thinking of being a tenant under the management of Charters, be prepared for horrendous levels of communication. I've rented for a number of years and this is by far the worst experience I've ever had with a managing agent. The property was in a poor state of cleanliness when I moved in and I've had nothing but trouble ever since. Emails are left unanswered, repairs are left for days leaving the property unsafe and ultimately, there is not a degree of empathy from them when it comes to any issues that arise. I deeply regret ever signing up as a tenant with them.

Fantastic experience: I want to preface this review by saying I belive in socialism and also have always been incredibly sceptical of land Lords and letting agents so I never thought I'd write a positive review about this group. HOWEVER I was so lucky. On january 2 of This year I ended up being sectioned and subsequently sent home with my parents. I was still renting and had 6 months left of the lease. I contacted charters in march letting them know my situation. They canceled my leases with no extra cost I received my February amd march rent back and also my full deposit (I know alot was up to the landlord buy you guys gave them recommendations) Money I desperately needed in this time. I was treated with dignity and kindness by there team and during the tenancy they were also incredibly quick and effective with amy mantinence problems. So thank you charters and particularly Giovanna Morgan

Have dealt with other Charters offices but this excels. Kevin and the team seem to have it sorted. Currently had offer accepted and progressing with purchase. He turned up on time..strong point for me...showed us the property in our time,no rush and answered any questions we had. Very affable (compliment) chap who in my opinion was good at what he did..No pressure ..would recommened him and his style.

Negative experience: We’ve recently finished a three year tenancy with Charters and unfortunately did not have a good experience. We experienced a number of occasions on which Kelly, our property manager, was rude over the phone. There were also a number of times where important messages were not successfully passed on either to us or from us. On one occasion we were emailed on the afternoon of the last working day before the Christmas break saying that the landlords wanted to view the property on the 27th December. We replied to confirm details, but never received a response. This meant we had to change our Christmas plans last minute to ensure one of us was at the flat for the 27th to let the landlord in. On another occasion we informed Charters we would not be available for an inspection on a specific afternoon due to us working from home and having meetings, to which Charters turned up anyway and let themselves into the flat due to the message not being passed on. On a third occasion we asked Charters to pass a request on to our landlord. Our landlord later informed us she had never been informed of this request. Finally, to wrap up our experience with Charters they attempted to take a large sum out of our deposit for cleaning and decorating fees. Luckily our deposit was protected with TDS, meaning an independent adjudicator was able to review our case and concluded that Charters would only be awarded £30. I truly believe Charters had no legal leg to stand on with their request for the deposit, but were simply trying their luck out of greed. My advice to any tenants out there would be to please challenge Charters on their deposit deductions! On a separate note, I must say we always had good experiences with Charters when it came to maintenance requests on the property.

Positive experience: I had a good experience working with Charters Estate Agents. There was an issue with the carpet when I first moved in, but Adriene Hill, Danielle Bailey, and Sam Scott were quick to resolve it by arranging for a replacement. Their response was prompt and professional, and the rest of the property met expectations. Thank you to Adriene, Danielle, and Sam for making sure the issue was handled efficiently and for ensuring the move-in process went smoothly.

Negative experience: Very poor overall service. We moved into a filthy property with unpaid bills from the previous tenant. Chaters were incredibly slow to deal with any of the issues. At the end of the tenancy, they dishonestly attempted to keep part of our deposit.

Negative experience: Moved into the flat to find it a state, the works agreed to had not been carried out and the flat was barely habitable. The management team were exceptionally slow at organising the remediation work and I had to regularly call, hassle and show up at the office in order to get anything done. This took over a month to achieve and caused a great deal of stress. Upon leaving, they have attempted to charge me an extra day of rent since I did not return the keys on a Sunday, a day that they are closed and have no facilities to drop keys off.

Fantastic experience: I chose Charters estate agents to sell my property in Southampton , Bassett area purely on the basis that I knew that the sales agent who working for them as he’d sold us a property a few years back. This sales agent , Simon Esda’s knowledge of the Bassett housing market is second to none and together we came up with a sales approach to best market my property. Simon introduced us to a potential buyer within a few days of being contracted to Charters. This buyer purchased the property . The team at Charters kept me up to date with the sales process and Lisa Roberts worked hard on ensuring we informed as to what was happening in all parts of the chain to the sale conclusion. The team at Charters are very professional and I would have no hesitation of using them again in the future.

Simon Edser has unrivalled experience in the prestige end of the market, which I am sure is the envy of many competitors. Charters are a great agency, making a noticeable impact all over Hampshire.

Negative experience: Grace was an awful agent to deal with. Put on offer for a property we wanted to purchased as we have our mortgage and everything was ready. Grace told us she will recommend us to seller as it will be quick purchased. After that we’ve trying to contact with her, she was ignoring our email, didn’t pick up our calls, telling other agent she will call us back. Didn’t even tell us whether offer has been accepted or not. After two days we’ve found out property has been sold. This is so unprofessional. Glad ive brought another property and it was quick and easy. Charters are the awful estate agent in Southampton. Most of them are rude and bad attitude . I would never recommend anyone to sell or buy from charters Specially people like grace will waste your time and effort. Totally disgusted.
