Negative experience: Renters, proceed with extreme caution (or better yet, run!) What was confidently advertised and explicitly confirmed in writing as a fully detached house with a private garden turned out, surprise surprise, to be a shared property where we were co-tenants with the neighbours and landlord, splitting both the building and the so-called “private” outdoor space. Detached? Private? Apparently those words mean whatever is most convenient at marketing o’clock. Once inside the “dream home”, reality hit harder than the cold: a serious roof leak, persistent damp and mould, and the pièce de résistance: several weeks without functioning central heating or hot water during proper cold weather. The agency’s response? Glacial. We felt genuinely abandoned while politely (then less politely) chasing basic habitability. Then the utility saga: we discovered post-move-in that the meters were shared with the other units including the landlords, yet the accounts were registered solely in our name. Months of providing evidence, raising the issue repeatedly, and… crickets. Nothing resolved. Turns out we were apparently running a charity for our neighbours’ and landlord’s energy bills. How thoughtful of us! The pattern was depressingly consistent: vague or misleading upfront info, problems only revealed after signing and moving in, and reactive (at best) communication that left us fighting for the bare minimum every step. We eventually escaped, breathing a huge sigh of relief to be free of the property, the landlord, and especially this agency. I would not rent through them again unless your hobbies include surprise shared living arrangements, prolonged heating outages in freezing weather, utility bill roulette, and feeling like you're on your own at the sign of any trouble. If you value clarity, competence, and not feeling like you’re in a bad sitcom, look elsewhere. 1/5 stars and that’s generous, and unfortunately as low as Google allows.

Negative experience: Absolute disaster!!! I am day 2 in renting through JLA with small kids! I've got no heating, no hot water, my shower is running water and you can't switch it off, I've got blocked drainage outside, broken draws, broken taps, just an absolute disaster!!!! They won't even help me out even though I told them my children had to sleep through the cold last night. This is day 2 of my relocation form another city and this is how they have dealt with me. There is no sense of emergency. STAY CLEAR OF THESE GUYS! UPDATE 15/01/26: So you reply saying all issues have been sorted. WHAT A LIE! YOUR CONTRACTOR CAME AND LITERALLY JUST FIXED HOT WATER. OTHERWISE THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE NOT HERE TO FIX THE LEAKS, THE DOWNSTAIRS WC, AND THE OTHER ISSUES I HAVE LOGGED ONTO YOUR PLATFORM! I HAVE USED YOUR MAINTENANCE LOG A NUMBER OF TIMES AND THEY HAVE BEEN IGNORED. LETS TRY AGAIN SHALL WE AND SEE IF YOUR TONE HAS CHANGED!!

Negative experience: Do not rent or let your property through Johals. Our experience with this agency has been absolutely horrendous, primarily due to their incompetence and lack of accountability. We paid for their so‑called “premium service,” which turned out to be anything but premium. They let our property to unsuitable tenants and provided false inspection reports — one of which was carried out three months late. It was only when we sent an independent contractor to inspect that we discovered the truth: the property was in poor condition, damaged, and has cost us thousands of pounds to repair. The tenant also failed to pay council tax, electricity, or gas bills, leaving all arrears for us to settle after we were forced to pursue eviction proceedings. Despite being promised rent guarantee cover under their premium service, Johals have failed to pay us anything — even months later. We first raised this in February and, five months on, have still received nothing. Repeated emails to Harry and his wife, the owners of Johals Lettings and Country & Fine Estate Agents, have gone unanswered. This agency not only ignores its contractual obligations but also shows a complete lack of integrity and transparency. There are far better letting agents in Leicester. Avoid Johals at all costs — using them has caused us significant financial and emotional distress. We have now escalated our complaint to The Property Redress Scheme and are seeking legal advice.

Negative experience: Absolutely the worst service I think I’ve every received from a letting company, rang up everyday for the past week about a property trying to get a viewing and agree a LET, heard absolutely nothing back, rang up today, they said the property is gone. Do not recommend, horrible estate agents. Just to confirm I did fill out the form, just didn’t hear anything back! Even after filling out their form, I still heard no word back. Couldn’t be more disappointed.

Negative experience: PLEASE DO NOT GO TO JOHALS LETTING AGENTS. I would give 0 stars if I could, but that's not possible. I also don't usually do public reviews, so this says a lot. We had a brief tenancy with JLA. There were multiple concerns with the property we were renting that we raised with JLA. Instead of working with us to find solutions, they simply gaslit or ignored our concerns. It took a billion e-mails/phone calls to escape their horrible service; in the end, we did, and now we're happier. 2 months of absolute stress, disappointment, terrible living conditions. I won't be surprised if this review disappears as I've noticed multiple other honest reviews disappear mysteriously.
