Negative experience: Wouldn’t recommend. Requested a viewing via Rightmove on Saturday as of Tuesday no response to an update

Fantastic experience: I have used Churchill's Estate Agents across my property portfolio and have always received first rate customer service. The tenants they have sourced for me have been great due to their excellent selection criteria. I regularly recommend them to others. I cannot fault them in any way.

Fantastic experience: It is easier to rent a property compared to other estates agents.

Negative experience: A very anonymous and superficial service from my perspective. Little accountability or justification of costs and expenses, no detail when they increase significantly. No mechanism for challenging or questioning bill increases. Lack of clarity in billing (received annual bill for management fee on one invoice without any acknowledgement that it could be paid monthly). Feels like a one way service, they send the bill and I have to pay it.

Fantastic experience: Churchills responds quickly to enquiries and solves problems promptly

Positive experience: There is definitely room for improvement. Although it is easy to report issues and communicate with the management team residents should not be responsible for having to constantly report communal areas issues as more frequent checks should be made by the management company in general. People with expertise in some areas should be employed instead of inexperienced ones e.g. Minton tiles in hallway requires specialist oversight to conserve them properly. External jobs could be resumed in a more timely manner instead of taking longer than necessary.

We have found Connor Logan to be super professional and really goes the ‘ extra mile ‘ He’s helpful , always willing to listen and a great problem solver. And most of all polite. When you are in buisness it’s so important for us to know we can rely on people . Connor certainly deserves recognition for his outstanding work .

Having moved from horrific renting experiences in London it was so refreshing to have a credible, reliable and professional experience with an agent. I will say there were some issues with that service over the period, but for as long as Adam Webb has been there we experienced something that is quite rare as renters; we felt valued. Not just a monthly direct debit number. I can’t thank Adam and team enough and hope they keep up a great service in the face of a really challenging rental market.

Negative experience: AVOID at all costs!!!. The worst estate agents I have ever had to deal with. They needed access to my property whilst we were on holiday for 2 weeks to take photos to re market the property, they failed to lock the doors when they left and left all our lights on the entire time we were away! The agent was so young and incompetent and tried making up excuses as to why he did that. However the biggest concern was when we moved out of the property, a week later they opened all our post! Then the manager emailed us a photocopy of our energy companies final bill that was in OUR name telling us to make sure we pay this final bill? It’s completely illigal to open someone else’s post and a massive violation of privacy. Trust me, you want to avoid this branch completely. There’s no accountability and they clearly are not trained to a high or professional standard.

Fantastic experience: As a landlord that has used a number of agencies Churchills (York) offers a professional service with a personal touch, providing advice and support along the way and resolving all issues very promptly. They have been particularly efficient in their support for marketing and onboarding new tenants swiftly.

Fantastic experience: Months and months ago Ash did a marketing campaign with a Refreshing twist, which prompted me to invite Churchills to view the property I was in with a view to taking over the management duties. One of the things that Ash made very clear to me was that we would have to have a fire inspection done before anything could move further. A couple of months down the line the current PM company sent their guy in to do a fire risk assessment. Two weeks after this assessment there was a house fire (in another flat) which has left the building unsafe and I needed to find a new place to live. I happened into Churchills and the first happy smiling face I saw was Ash who welcomed me and put me onto a great property which suits my budget and seems idyllic. Everything about dealing with Churchills has been frictionless. Looking at the properties on paper, viewing the one we wanted, signing up with them, conversations with Ash, Gemma, and Sally have been a breeze. At a time when I needed to move things at the right pace and to get through the hassle, it was made easy by these guys. Fantastic experience: I recently rented a house through Churchills, and it has been a very smooth transition from a problematic previous letting agency to one who I would say is very professional - which makes a nice change! Rebecca, at the York branch, was extremely helpful - from house viewing to collecting the keys - and took the headache out of the process. With how crazy the current housing situation is in York, it's great that there is a letting agency who still put customer ease of service at the forefront of their day-to-day activities.

Negative experience: The flat I am renting is currently in the process of being sold to investors through Churchills. I have had some correspondence with Hannah in regards to setting up dates and times for a valuation and then for viewings. Two time slots were agreed upon for Thursday 10th and Saturday 12th. They were not within their time frame Thursday and no one showed up on Saturday. I emailed Hannah questioning whether anyone would be showing up Saturday or if all viewings were done on Thursday. I had no response. Monday rolls around and I get a knock at my door whilst I’m in bed, I answer to a representative from Churchill’s with three people saying they have a viewing at this property. I explained that I had not been notified of this nor have I agreed to this, yet the representative claimed it had been agreed. I allowed them in to look around and called Churchill’s as soon as they left. I was met with an attitude from a woman on the phone who then put me on hold once I told her which property I live in. When she reconnected the call she said your name is *says wrong name* isn’t it? I said no it is not. So they had me mixed up with someone else, they also had the wrong phone number for me which isn’t an excuse as I had been corresponding via email and was given a half-arsed apology. I was never notified of this viewing and what’s worse is if I weren’t home they would have illegally let themselves into my flat. They have no regard for the person who’s home it is that they are showing around to people as and when they please.

From the day I moved in, and the day to day living in between, to the last days, the staff have been polite, friendly, and firing on all cylinders to ensure both myself and my landlord were happy and that we each upheld our responsibilities with the utmost courtesy and professionalism expected of all of us, myself included. Whenever a situation would come up, communication to the team was easy, and I am proud to say that the team were more than happy to accommodate given my circumstances. They made this old iron feel welcome and a proud customer and tenant. It has been an enjoyable coaster of highs and lows, swings and roundabouts, but the journey has come to the end of the line. I will miss the old home I rented, and the neighbours I would enjoy the banter with. We were a lovely little niche community on our side of the road. However, goodbyes are temporary, and I shall look forward to the day I can come back to York as a permanent home owner, and Churchills Estate Agents will be in front of the queue for future business.

However I have been most impressed by Churchills Estate Agency. My experience is that the Lettings Team at their Gillygate Office provide a friendly, reliable and professional service. They were genuinely helpful in trying to find me a suitable property, and after I submitted an application to rent one, they kept in touch with me at every step of the process. Maybe it’s because it's a local independent agency that makes the difference, but I found they really do go the extra mile to ensure the whole renting process is as smooth, speedy and efficient as possible. Fantastic experience: I want to personally thank Ashley from Churchills who worked so hard to get me and my housemate a property. After months of searching, he went out of his way to find the perfect place for us. He gave us frequent updates, checked in with us, and the moving process was quick and simple. He really went above and beyond.

Negative experience: Was attacked by my housemate and completely disregarded by the estate agents, no help in returning my £500 deposit, they only care about rent being paid and not the welfare of their tenants, avoid.

Negative experience: When I viewed the property I was interested in I was told the white goods are included in the price and had a friend with me who heard the employee saying that too me also. On my moving in date I expected to find an unfurnished property with white goods in there. Well to my disbelief no fridge nor wash machine was there. I enquired with the estate agent straight away and they phoned back to say that the white goods weren’t included in the flat, which I thought it was a joke. I had a good shouting match with one of the employees as I found highly unprofessional to be misled the way I was and if I knew in advance that now white goods are included I wouldn’t have bothered to move in. I believe white goods were advertised. Other places in York offer white goods included in the renting price. I was also told that the house has a gas on direct debit and yet I found out it had pay as you go electricity/ gas. So not happy at all. The estate‘s agent error cost me 200 quid extra.

Fantastic experience: I have been dealing with both Ash (lettings) and Jack (sales) because I have been unable to decide whether to sell or rent out. Jack recommended an accountant for CGT advice, who has been very good, and I have now decided to sell. Both guys have been patient and helpful throughout. Unlike some other York estate agents and letting agents I have dealt with previously, both have acted with the urgency you would hope for given that having a house empty costs money. Communication has been clear and frequent. Ash quickly co-ordinated people to clear, decorate and deep clean my house ready for renting. For this I am very grateful as this sort of thing can be a real time/money pit when you try to do it yourself. A weight off my mind. Thanks both of you. Fingers crossed that the sale now goes well.

Fantastic experience: I recently lost power to the sockets in my property. Connor dealt with the issue quickly and in an efficient and sympathetic manner, getting an electrician to take a look and resolve the problem the same day. I was very pleased with how the problem was handled and with the outcome.
