Negative experience: We have been dealing with Ashton’s on a rental property which we are meant to move into in less than a week. They have been difficult to work with, seemingly unable to sort minor contract details and won’t return calls. We still haven’t even signed the contract despite paying the holding deposit 5 weeks ago. Extremely frustrating; moving house is stressful anyway and these guys are only adding to it. As a landlord myself I’d be mortified if my agent was as poor as this.

Negative experience: Drove an hour for a viewing. Confirmation text message received the night before. But nobody at the property to let us in and no call or explanation from the agent and unresponsive on the phone. I’ll stick to other agents I think.

Negative experience: We’ve scheduled a viewing and then discovered that the agent didn’t turn up, we ended up waiting in the rain just outside the property. We then called the agency and needed to explain the situation, apparently the person who’s scheduled didn’t document any details. A person who responded on the phone agreed to come and show the property, so that’s another 15’ waiting. When he’s arrived and discovered that he didn’t have the keys and was expecting to find them in the lockbox, but that was empty. Conclusion: 40’ waiting plus commute waisted. Disappointing experience, i will try to avoid if I can. EDIT: this happened today 8 July 2023.

Fantastic experience: Can’t rate Ashtons highly enough. We recently completed on a sale and purchase with them and the quality of their service throughout has been exemplary. Alex and James were the members of staff we mostly worked with - both were very competent and importantly very personable. We knew we were in great hands. And having experienced a bunch of other estate agents as sellers and buyers they are a lot better than all the others.

Positive experience: Our initial experience of renting a property through Ashtons was seamless. Alexander, from the St Albans branch, is an asset to the company. He has been both professional and very responsive throughout the process. Thank you for your hard work and assisting us so effectively! Edit - Since our contract was started with Ashtons in April 2021, we have had nothing but stress trying to get rental property issues remedied. We are currently on our third property manager from Ashtons. Over 6 weeks ago we reported rising damp, severely high levels of moisture in the property (water pooling in window frames etc.), and black mould in the bedroom. This issue still hasn't been dealt with, and Ashtons are not proactively chasing our landlord for a response or for action to be taken. We have even attended the branch to raise the issue and it is not being addressed to the required standard. Update - Ashtons have since been prompt when discussing property issues with us. We have been made aware that there were some understaffing issues. These have since been rectified, and Ashtons are back to providing a great service - so much so that we have been viewing new rental properties with them!
