Negative experience: Estate agents are morally bankrupt at the best of times, these guys took it to a new level. The let out a 5 bed house to me and my partner in the full knowledge that the owner was intending to sell. They didn't tell us this, and when we were trying to replace the carpets (the smelt of urine) they finally let on that the owner was 'considering' selling. I later found out this was always the intention and the owner himself had requested that no tenant be let in if they were intending to stay there a long time. This caused me and my partner huge stresses and put is in quite a desperate situation. From the way they talk to you, put you off its clear to see they don't care about tenants, they're somehow worse than the majority of estate agents and I genuinely don't know how anyone who works here sleeps at night.

Positive experience: Monks were the vendors agent. Overall, as the buyer, I was pleased with their service. That staff were always professional, polite and courteous. We viewed at 3 different times, firstly before making the offer and twice after making the offer so family members could see the property. Monks accommodated us in respect of the additional viewings, but had to rearrange the timing of one to suit their diary, this wasn't a problem for us. However, on the day of the move, there was a delay before I could pick up the key, I am not sure why as the funds from my house were available some 2 hours before. When the key was available to me, I phoned ahead and told the office that I was on my way and will be approximately 10 minutes. When I arrived the gentleman I spoke to was not at his desk and the only person in the office was on the telephone. I had to wait for around 20 minutes before I could receive the key. Overall, this added to my removal cost as the company I was using had a waiting time fee. And finally, these delays seem to be indicative of a lack of office staff which had previously manifested itself in the telephone not being answered when I called for various reasons during the sale period.

Negative experience: Very bad ask for a a viewing this this week on a property in Shrewsbury but they said they could not fit me in anywhere this week

Negative experience: Not a good experience with the rental team from start to finish. There were multiple errors and a complete lack of communication throughout the process. From the moment we put the offer down, I had to chase for almost everything — including the tenancy agreement, which only arrived two days before our move-in date and even had my surname spelled incorrectly (despite having sent copies of our IDs). On move-in day, the property was disgustingly dirty. When I called to ask if a professional clean had been done, the person on the phone abruptly said, “If it’s not in the tenancy agreement, it wasn’t done,” and then hung up on me. A few hours later, Patricia called to apologise for her colleague’s behaviour, but the whole experience felt incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. We ended up having to clean the entire house ourselves while moving in — not exactly how you want to spend your first day. To top it off, a month later I realised our rent payment hadn’t gone through — turns out we’d never even been given the payment details. Yet again, I had to chase them for something that should’ve been handled from the start. Overall, a very frustrating and stressful experience. Definitely wouldn’t use this agency again. Avoid if you want a smooth, stress-free rental process.

Negative experience: Rent at your own risk ! I am a current tenant, facing issues since I moved in. Upon signing the contract, they hunted for the keys for ONE HOUR because it was missing. When I finally moved in, there was no electricity or heating and I called the office, where the guy said he would get back to me ASAP as i had literallyjust got the keys. It was Saturday, they close at 12 and he never rang back. I had to go back to my previous landlord and stay extra 4 days while they sorted it out. Heating/ hot water is often an issue here, common areas are mouldy with fungus on carpet, I will update review with pictures. I also had locks changed recently, where their contractor clearly showed me the extra key he was "supposedly" taking to the office. Then Monks confirmed on phone they never received it and will check with the man, meaning there is a strange man out there with access to my flat, which is scary as a single woman. This also poses a safety issue and being new to town, I will have to seek advice from council/ citizen advice. If you really like a property and want this agent, ONLY do so if you don't have vulnerable tenants, not living by yourself (constant repairs), not a woman new here (safety concern), don't have mental health/ health issues (stress), don't have a social life (poorly maintained, can't have people over). As a single person, it is difficult to stay back for constant repairs from work. They tend to lose their management keys often, so they won't be in for contractors to work. Staff are always rude, and one quick call by anyone to this agent is sufficient to confirm if this is true. Other reviews here also confirm the same. They are decidedly unhelpful on phone, and unless its racial, I suppose it can't be personal, so it is probably the problem as a company. Avoid - unless you have extra time to go behind issues. Or you will be miserable here like me, while you seek to move again (the hassle of finding a new home ! ) A home should be your safe space, and a half decent agent will be better ensure that.

Negative experience: Trying to view a property keep getting promise of a call back that never happens. If this how they treat buyers not sure I will giving them my house to sell

Negative experience: Monks do seem to care about their appearance and they present themselves well but their service is far from the image they portray. When applying, we were regularly needing to check up on our application. Admittedly, this was due to us needing to move quickly but Monks were aware of this. They did also get our moving date wrong. There was information about the property we were moving in to that was only revealed after we had paid all fees and signed our contracts which would have greatly affected our interest in the tenancy had it been offered in advance. We voiced our concerns about these and other issues we had to the agency and while they came to the defence of the landlord, they only acknowledged the issues we listed that could be attributed to the landlord, skipping over anything that would be the fault of the agency. When these skipped issues were raised for a second time, noting that they were ignored the first, we stopped receiving any communication from the agency. I try not to judge Monks by the mistakes they have made but I am judging them for their inability to resolve any problems or even acknowledge the issue.
