They obtain all safety certificates, HMO applications etc. on our behalf. They have dealt with any problems like replacing a broken washing machine or fixing a water leak quickly and efficiently. Their customer service is first class, they are easy to contact by email or phone. They will offer helpful advice if we need it. Basically, they do all the work and we just sit back and watch the rent come in.

Negative experience: Warning: Unfair Treatment of Tenants and Deposits Extremely disappointing experience with this agency. One of our tenants only lived in the property for three months before ending their tenancy suddenly, but the agency has tried to pass the entire burden of cleaning and other costs onto us. They deducted over £1,100 from our deposit, including an outrageous £714 “cleaning” fee . What makes this worse is that the property was not professionally cleaned when I moved in, yet they still insisted on charging for a professional clean at the end. When I asked for evidence, they could not provide check-in documentation to justify their charges. ⚠️ From my experience, I would strongly recommend never renting a house through this agency, unless you are prepared to dispute unreasonable deductions at the end.

Callum, my property manager, was always quick to respond, clear in his communication, and very helpful whenever anything came up. He made sure everything ran smoothly, including facilitating clear and seamless communication with the landlord, and any issues were dealt with efficiently. The flat was really well-maintained, well insulated, with yearly check-ups to keep everything in good shape, and I appreciated that the rent increases stayed reasonable. The entire immigration process is extremely stressful and intimidating, but College and County were truly excellent in their service and responsiveness, and they made finding housing very easy and stress-free. Fantastic experience: It’s always a stressful decision purchasing a property, but Rowan at College and County made this process seem like a walk in the park. We were impressed from day one with his honest and personable approach to the purchasing process, as well as his responsiveness to messages which far exceeded expectations. Would highly recommend and use again if the opportunity arose!

Negative experience: Awful experience as a tenant with College and County. Shortly after moving into a C&C rental, my partner (who is asthmatic) was having trouble breathing despite pretty mild allergies issues that had never been problematic before - maybe due to a cat living in the property previously, which wasn't disclosed to us, or maybe as we later discovered due to a pretty bad mould issue (not sure why EPC ratings of E are legal, but that's a separate issue). When told about this, C&C refused to provide any useful accommodations, such as e.g. replacing the carpets, which were in pretty disgusting condition anyway thanks to carpet moths. Legally, they (and landlords) are supposed to provide reasonable accommodations for asthma, which is considered a disability under the Equality Act. Instead they offered only to let us leave early, except rather than just giving us a move out date, they made it conditional on them finding a replacement tenant and us paying rent until the day the new tenant moved in. So, we were kept in limbo for weeks, unable to live safely in that property but also unsure if we'd be on the hook for thousands of pounds extra in rent because they didn't want to risk their landlord going a few days without rent. They tried to pin the blame for the situation on us, for not mentioning my partner's allergy or asking about pets before renting. This is very clearly unfair. First, her allergies weren't severe and had never caused an issue before - if the property had been fairly mould-free and cleaned properly it would've been fine. Second, they obviously just wouldn't have rented to us if we'd mentioned it beforehand, since there were 10 other parties lining up to rent that place - it just opens you up to discrimination based on disability, which, again, is illegal. No sympathy, no help, just making sure we didn't lose their landlord any rent on their little investment property. EDIT 9/7/24: unsure why the response below says they have "no record" of me, I have rented with C&C two separate times and had extensive email correspondence with them. Just a lame attempt to discredit my review, I guess ‍♂️

Fantastic experience: I rented a flat in Oxford from 2021 to 2024 and moved out this year due to personal reasons. College and County is one of the best lettings agents I have seen in Oxford. Unlike some agents in Oxford who intimidate you or do not respond to your emails during the leasing period, College and County was responsive to any issues that I had during the last three years. They were able to resolve any issues I had with the property within a reasonable timeframe. The landlord was good too. The staff is professional, courteous, and helpful.

Positive experience: One of the better ones. They definitively know what they are doing, and are on it. They do send a horrible load of emails and work with a not very functional web-service for the contract, however, I guess this is better than zero or late communication. They also make up for technical glitches with extremely helpful and kind staff. The down-side of them being on it is of course that there is little flexibility - everyone has to act according to the rules (e.g. they will make you move out of your house at the end of your yearly contract if more than 2 people in the tenancy agreement change; but they will give the house a deep clean and make sure the inventory is fine). So overall good!

Fantastic experience: It was a great exprience. I have lived in Oxford more than 3 years, where the housing market is crazy, and experienced several major housing agencies here. From viewing to contract, College and County has treated me always reasonably and they tried their best to response quickly and kindly to my inquiries and questions. These aspects are nowadays really difficult to find in other agencies in Oxford.

Negative experience: I am having a horrible experience with college and county. There are several issues with my flat, some of which are very basic like not having heating in the house. For over 6 months, I have been emailing and calling the agency to get these fixed but nothing is being done yet. I would sincerely advise people to not rent through this agency.

Negative experience: I rented a property a few years ago and it still stands as my worst experience with a letting agency. Moving into the property mid December with a broken toliet and no heating was bad. But my favourite in a very long list of issues was when I contacted the office in an emergency as water was pouring through the kitchen ceiling (caused by a leaking shower that was never fixed during the tenancy and caused issues with mould) and was told 'I don't understand can you send an email with photos'!? We had never been shown where to turn the water off and the ceiling did have to be replaced. As young professionals we were made to feel like an annoying burden. At least we had no issues with the deposit. It's a shame the manager ignores all private complaints via email when things can be fixed, yet is very quick to respond to reviews in detail!

Positive experience: I rented a student property from College and County in 2022-23 and had no trouble at all. Ewelina was always responsive, helpful, and the agency always helped us repair things in a timely manner, and were reasonable regarding fair wear and tear. Only slight negative was that some communications seemed to imply that it was mandatory for us to get the property professionally cleaned upon check out. Quoting from an email: "Cleaning charges are a common deduction from your deposit at the end of a tenancy. To avoid this, and as per your tenancy agreement (where you have agreed to have the property professionally cleaned) we recommend you contact any of the below ‘preferred’ cleaning companies." It is illegal for landlords to require this of tenants, and when I explicitly asked about this, it was acknowledged that we could just clean it ourselves, but I do feel like some communications were worded such that we were led to believe that we absolutely must use professional cleaners, which felt a bit sneaky. Overall though, it was a very positive experience renting with C&C.

The timings of our move were tighter than ideal, and the team at C+C acted especially quickly on our behalf, to make the process as easy as possible. All our enquiries have been replied to swiftly, and always with a helpful response. On the two occasions that we have been to the office in person we have been helped quickly and professionally by different members of the team.
