Negative experience: Martin & Co. Oxford are, without a doubt, the worst lettings agency I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. If I could award them no stars, I would. In short: I was left homeless in Oxford last December due to the negligence, pure stupidity and utter lack of care from Martin & Co. Oxford and its staff, primarily Emma Glover. I was then awarded compensation and costs by Oxford County Court. They can't run a bath, let alone a lettings agency. The longer version is herein: I was due to move into an existing tenancy in December 2024 but was unable to do so due to incorrect instructions given by Emma Glover, rendering the signed contract as invalid and not legally sound. With no other option and at sudden notice, I was forced to live in a hotel and have my belongings stored in a temporary facility, with no assistance or care from Martin & Co. I was then informed that the landlord had decided against proceeding with the contract, despite having a signed contract (albeit one that was incorrectly completed due to Emma Glover's incompetence), with no reason given to me whatsoever. I was then informed by the existing tenants that this was because I complained about a rat issue at the house. I then met with Emma Collis and Abi Rosser in person to discuss this, as I was now effectively homeless, and they had nothing else to say except that they had no obligation to help me, nor help me secure alternative accommodation. I explained that I was now homeless and had nowhere else to go. No apology was given and I left their office due to an anxiety attack. Had I not had the financial means to book a hotel at such short notice - and right before the Christmas period - I would have had nowhere else to live. My mental health, understandably, was at its lowest. I can only assume that the landlord was then made aware of the legal ramifications of reneging on a signed contract, because I was then informed that her decision had been reversed again. However, I was not allowed to enter the property under any circumstances until the paperwork was re-done, which could have taken up to 2 months. I was, thankfully, lucky enough to secure my own temporary accommodation via a sublet, with no help from anyone at Martin & Co. Upon informing David Rebe, the Director of this branch, that I would be pursuing legal action against them for the costs I had incurred, he informed me that such action would be unsuccessful and deemed frivolous by the court. Again, no apology was given at any point. In Spring 2025 I was given notice that my legal claim would proceed with an in-person court date. No representative from Martin & Co. appeared in court, much to the dissatisfaction from the judge. Not only did they show an utter lack of respect for me and what they had done, but also the court system. I was then awarded my costs and requested compensation in full. I have never received a single apology from any member of staff at Martin & Co. Their incompetence, coupled with their complete lack of respect and care, is astounding. I can see that Emma Glover, the main perpetrator of this incompetence, is still employed by this lettings agency. My best advice is to avoid them with a barge pole; save yourself the money and the trouble and rent with Lucy Properties instead.

Negative experience: Avoid for student letting. Our property manager Emma G was consistently rude and unhelpful. For one example, at the start of the tenancy our downstairs room was left flooded as there was an issue with the door’s seal and heavy rain. When initially informed the property manager’s response was that this had not happened before so the issue must lie with us. It then took them three weeks to fix the issue despite a room being flooded… At least the other staff members we dealt with were lovely and keen to help.

Negative experience: Avoid for student letting at all costs, absolutely awful service. Our letting manager was rude, obstructive and completely unhelpful.

Negative experience: My partner and I had a good experience when we first rented with this agency, but ending our tenancy was an absolute NIGHTMARE!!! While the landlord was reasonable and easy to negotiate with, the letting manager made the entire process far more difficult than it needed to be. There was a clear lack of flexibility or willingness to resolve things amicably. What should have been a simple end to our rental turned into a frustrating ordeal. We would not rent through them again and would caution others to think twice.

Negative experience: Poor service and unprofessional conduct throughout tenancy I would strongly advise avoiding Martin & Co based on our experience as tenants. Rent Disputes & Misinformation: Currently dealing with a 2-month ongoing dispute where they're trying to overcharge rent beyond what's permitted in our contract. Initially told us rent review clauses didn't apply, then completely misinterpreted the contract terms when they realized they were wrong. Basic contract comprehension seems lacking. Property Condition: Moved into a dirty, untidy property with no proper check-in process. No one from the agency was present to document the property condition, leaving us vulnerable to deposit disputes later. Maintenance Issues: Response times for repairs are appalling - we're talking months, not days or weeks. Overall Service: Unprofessional communication, lack of basic property management knowledge, and what appears to be deliberate attempts to overcharge tenants beyond contractual agreements. Save yourself the headache and choose a different letting agent. There are plenty of professional property management companies in Oxford that actually understand tenancy law and provide decent service.

Having sold many properties over the years I try and choose the estate agent that can excel on the period after the buyer has been found. The sales chasing is an invaluable part of the selling process and the sales progressor at Martin & Co was Patricia Vassib who has to be the best and most thorough Progressor that I have had the pleasure of dealing with. Nothing was too much trouble and her knowledge of the whole selling process was second to none so that she headed off potential problems and delays by being proactive and always kept me fully informed. Unfortunately we went through the auction process, no fault of Martins, which didnt work for us but I have to say this estate agents and particularly Mudassar were really good. Negative experience: An absolutely awful real estate agency. They are incapable of reading emails longer than one sentence, my agents were absolutely useless and it came to a point that I had to explain to them that now EU citizens need visas too because of Brexit, which someone whose job it is to check Right to Rent documents should know. This did not stop them from wasting my time on many occasions further regarding why I need a visa (?). Every conversation with the agent was excruciating, as they did not seem to comprehend information. Avoid if possible. It made moving to the UK and renting my first flat an unnecessarily stressful experience. I am unable to reply to the response from the owner, but I was a tenant in 2022. I am not talking about the wrong agency, I most definitely remember this experience correctly. The main correspondence was with Abi, but there were a few other agents involved.

Fantastic experience: Abi and her colleagues did a fantastic job - although I did not end up taking the fantastic property offered, owing to other circumstances, it was a first-class experience and I would gladly contact them again, should I be looking in the area. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: Be warned, we have had a really terrible experience with Martin+Co Oxford. They are off-hand in their approach to clients and left us hanging in a very desperate situation. They are totally money focused and the human side of the transition is swiftly swept out of the way. It's only the money. Do not expect compassion or kindness from them, they are hard! Never have we had a stressful dealings with an agency before this time. We have been through extreme duress and stress with them. We are now taking our case with Martin+Co Oxford to the Property Ombudsman. If you have a choice, go somewhere else.

Fantastic experience: Martin & Co have looked after my 6 rental properties in Oxford since 2007 so clearly I have been satisfied with the service received otherwise I would not have used them for so long. Recently I decided to sell up and retire and again Martin & Co have provided a great service to get the sales moving and completed (sometimes in challenging circumstances that have prevailed since 2019). Fantastic experience: The most pleasant experience I've had with a letting agency. I can't speak to the rest of the organisation necessarily, but Abi is certainly fantastic. Abi was very efficient, super responsive, and took time to answer any and all questions I had. As moving is a very uncertain time for anyone; it was a massive burden lifted to to work with someone who allayed all nervousness, and provided clarity throughout.

Positive experience: I just rent a property with Martin & Co in Oxford. The branch is fine, just it seems to me that they do not have enough staff in the busiest time. They might not check your emails, and you really need to call them again and again to get things sorted. Fortunately, the staff who dealt with my tenancy are professional and nice. Conor helped me with putting an offer and contacting the landlord, and Abi helped me with the referencing and the following steps. Both of them are very responsive, efficient and friendly, which made the process easier and less pressured. Special thanks to Abi, who resolved the issue I encountered with the referencing company immediately when I called her -- Goodlord is not very professional and some of the staff need to improve their common sense, I have to say, compared with my previous experience with another letting agency.
