Negative experience: Absolutely disappointed. The person I spoke to was completely unprofessional and demanded we cut her a key (we are contractually obliged not to). Her attitude was standoffish and rude. A group of potential tennants showed up to our house, having shown up without an estate agent and been told to 'just knock'. We were not informed that anyone would be showing up today. There has not been an open dialogue, and bookings keep being suggested for days that it is known that we are not available due to work. What was upsetting was that I tried to explain that we do not feel comfortable with viewings happening with no-one being present which then the member of staff became defensive and agressive.

The fees he quoted were comparable to those of other reputable agents I consulted. However, there was a strong emphasis on sales tactics, including repeated mentions of an extensive database of potential buyers. Ultimately, I chose to proceed with another agency that felt more grounded and aligned with my expectations. Following this decision, Alex's demeanor shifted—he became noticeably aggressive and spoke disparagingly about the other agent, referring to them in unprofessional terms, (cheap agent) . This behaviour was disappointing and did not reflect the level of professionalism I would expect.

Negative experience: While Chancellors staff communicate professionally, their rental application process is deliberately designed to pressure and exploit prospective tenants. High-Pressure Tactics: Constant pressure to commit immediately, pay deposits on the spot, and threats that you'll "lose your chance" if you don't act within hours. They create artificial urgency to prevent you from making informed decisions. Unreasonable Timelines: Expected us to complete 8-page application forms overnight, along with additional "property passport" documentation. The administrative burden is excessive and clearly designed to rush people into commitments. Unnecessarily Complex Process: The application requirements are overly complicated with multiple overlapping forms and documents. This isn't about thorough vetting - it's about creating barriers that favor those who can drop everything to meet their arbitrary deadlines. Overall Experience: The stress and pressure tactics made the whole process unpleasant. We ultimately chose not to rent through them because their practices felt manipulative rather than professional. There are other letting agents who don't rely on high-pressure sales tactics and actually give you time to make informed decisions about where you'll be living. Would recommend looking elsewhere.

Negative experience: WORST AGENCY EVER!!!STAY AWAY FROM THEM. We were looking for a new house near headington and found one at 41 kiln lane,I submitted all the documents and then told me to create the passport which had too many errors finally we even created the passport and then last Thursday the agent freya barry called my wife and said if she doesnt submit her documents and create her passport the landlord will withdraw the application on Monday.I personally visited their office on Friday and met freya barry and she told me that we cannot proceed without your wife documents and the landlord would withdraw the application on Monday which is just a week before the move in date,when we were informed by freya barry that the landlord is going to withdraw the application we started looking for option and we found a new house with another agency with less hastle and more professional then chancellors so freya barry called me and said we will charge you for 1 week rent £384 and if not paid she threatened me to see you in court.Today they finally deducted £384 PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS THIEVES.

Fantastic experience: After many months of looking, and even months to close the deal, we've found our perfect house thanks to Ronaldo and Alex! Ronaldo arranged most of our viewings and he was super warm, friendly and supportive which made a world of difference as first timers. We were able to enjoy the experience and appreciated that he gave us enough information to feel confident in our decision. Alex was also very efficient and on top of things which really sped things along. We truly felt we were in good hands as he doesn't miss anything. Some of the other Chancellors agents were either not as friendly, mixed up appointments without apology, or left our emails and calls unanswered during delays in the chain. So we're really glad that we mainly worked with Ronaldo and Alex.

Negative experience: A Disappointing Home-Buying Experience with Chancellors – Our Story Buying our first home was supposed to be a joyful milestone, but unfortunately, our experience with Chancellors left us feeling frustrated, stressed, and financially strained. We want to share our story to shed light on the challenges we faced so others can make informed decisions. The Timeline of Delays We agreed to purchase our flat in February 2024, but due to legal issues with the previous tenants, we couldn’t proceed until late July. During this time, we worked hard to secure our deposit and mortgage. After encountering difficulties with our first solicitor, we switched to another in mid-August, and from then on, we were ready with all the necessary documents. Despite our preparedness, Chancellors’ sales progression team and the Headington branch failed to ensure that the seller’s side was equally ready. As a result, the process dragged on past our tenancy end date on 15th September, leaving us with no choice but to stay in Airbnbs at a significant costs weekly. A Lack of Communication and Accountability Even after our solicitor confirmed that we were ready for the exchange, it emerged that the seller’s documents were still not in order. It’s unclear whether Chancellors were aware of this earlier and ignored it, or if they simply didn’t notice. Either way, this left us doubting their professionalism and competence. Instead of taking accountability, the Headington branch staff blamed the delays on us changing solicitors—completely ignoring the fact that our side was ready while the seller’s wasn’t. This deflection of responsibility added to our frustration. Unprofessional and Insensitive Behavior One incident particularly stood out. The branch manager incorrectly suggested that my mother, a Taiwanese national, should approach the Chinese government for passport verification. Whether due to ignorance or carelessness, this comment demonstrated a lack of cultural awareness and professionalism. While not directly tied to the delays, it further eroded our trust in Chancellors. The Cost of Delays The delays caused us significant financial and emotional distress. We estimate that the process could have been completed at least two weeks earlier, saving us the Airbnb costs. The stress of the situation also took a toll on our mental health, causing sleepless nights, anxiety, and immense pressure during an already challenging time. Our Appeal We’ve requested reimbursement for these unnecessary expenses, but so far, Chancellors’ responses have been dismissive and unsatisfactory. We believe this reflects poorly on their commitment to customer service. Our Message to Prospective Buyers We hope sharing our experience encourages others to carefully consider their options when choosing an estate agent. Buying a home is one of the most significant milestones in life, and it’s essential to work with a team that communicates effectively, acts professionally, and takes responsibility for their role in the process. Negative experience: Don't let property through them, I had tenants who make flat mould everywhere, all other tenants before were fine. I had two reports indicating my flat is fine, Agent and council try to avoid any responsibility, asking me put huge amount to refurbish it. Nightmare.

Since we arrived in Oxford in late August, when fewer properties were available, and were eager to move in as soon as possible, Charlie patiently took care of our needs, found suitable properties, and responded to our questions quickly and thoughtfully. Thanks to his efforts, we successfully moved into a wonderful house within a week. Overall, he’s a great person working at a great letting agency.

Fantastic experience: We have recently rented a property through Chancellors, and whilst some areas left us feeling frustrated (the lettings hub mainly!) Overall we had a positive experience and this is mostly down to Charlie. Charlie showed us the property, answering a million and one questions and following up with any he didn’t know on the spot. Charlie was always quick to respond, professional and a great contact throughout this process. When passed to the head office, delays in responses increased but Charlie (even though technically we weren’t under his care at this time) made sure to follow up on any queries we had. He also checked in after all was complete to make sure we had everything we needed. He is a credit to the team and my 5 stars is based on my experience with him directly. Danielle was one of our contacts at head office, responses were delayed at times, but when we did speak to Danielle, she was friendly, informative and professional. I’m not in a rush to move again, but when I do, I would be happy to do so with this team.

Wonderful to work with and motivated. Selling a house is an adventure, however, like any adventure, it’s good to have someone who will be there to support you, and for us… that was Jack.

Negative experience: DO NOT RENT 8 AWGAR STONE ROAD. The house was in awful shape and the landlord is not returning my deposit claiming there is damage which I didn't do. Chancellors did not do anything to protect me. I was left without heating over the Christmas period and forced to pay the full rent of 1500£/month. I contacted chancellors nothing happened. So spare the nice words on the web

Negative experience: I tell you to beware of this company as they do not have the best interest for their customer/ tenants, very bad communication and rapid staff turnover rate. When they make mistakes that jeopardise your application or any tenancy related issues, they will never take responsibility for it, thereby costing the tenants alot in the end. I have had my fair share of poor experiences with their Headington and East Oxford branches. There is no structure in place to report or make official complaints. I don't know if there's any managers/ leaders in this company as they could use good leadership to direct them, because the current managers hide behind some kind of leave or meeting or even come up with an excuse to be soooooo unhelpful or resolve issue. Be warned ⚠️.... they are only after the money but no quality of service and accountability.

Fantastic experience: I am a first time buyer so no previous experience about getting an state agent appointment, viewing itself is totally a new experience for me. I was bit nervous on the day of my house viewing on the top tensed about how I will manage to view three houses in 45 minutes without any personal vehicle. In my first property viewing I explained my situation to Jack and he was very kind and helpful. He gave lift to me and my husband and showed us all three properties. It was a great experience. Being a first time buyer I asked so many questions to Jack but he was very nice and polite in answering all our questions. Negative experience: If I was able to put no Star, I will do that. 0 star This is the worst agency ever, every time when I have a problem or an emergency they send me from on person to another person, they will take few days or few weeks to do something. I suppose to have an inspection this week, I take a day off extra to be able to be home, they changed to next week and day say I just send you an email about the day and the hour, I didn't get any emails, I call them every day to ask about the email and still nothing after 4 days.

We submitted an offer but alas we were not successful. Bella was very professional, polite and provided answers to all our questions. Subsequently we viewed several properties with Bella.
