Negative experience: I am very disappointed with the service from William H Brown, particularly from Kain Purnell. I raised a serious safety concern regarding combustible material being installed too close to a gas hob, which does not comply with regulations. This is not a minor issue — it is a potential fire hazard and should be treated urgently and professionally. Unfortunately, Kain has ignored my messages since last week and has failed to provide any update or resolution. Being ignored when raising a legitimate safety concern is completely unacceptable. I expected much better communication, responsibility, and professionalism. I hope William H Brown will address this matter properly and improve their response to safety issues in the future.

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Charlie highly enough. From the first viewing to completion, he was very professional, transparent, and incredibly proactive.
Negative experience: Faizan rang me, cold calling during my work meeting, proceeded to launch into a monologue about how his day was going, and when I tried to politely let him go because it wasn't a good time -- he just hung up....... no 'oh sorry', no 'sure well contact you via your preferred method next time', just unapologetic interruption and unapologetic rudeness. I will never use this agent for my business. so unnecessary, so rude

Fantastic experience: Charlie showed me around two properties recently and was excellent. He was genuinely one of the best agents I’ve met during my search. Fantastic experience: We have been looking for a house for several months now, and we really enjoyed our experience with Charlie. He arrived earlier than the scheduled appointment, which was a pleasant surprise, as agents usually arrive just on time or sometimes even late. Charlie was very well prepared and knowledgeable. He knew exactly where all the appliances were, explained the house layout clearly, and provided detailed information about the boiler and other equipment. He also had all the keys ready, including those for the outdoor areas and the garage — something that is surprisingly often forgotten by agents and can make a viewing feel incomplete. He made us feel very comfortable asking questions and was proactive and professional throughout the visit. Whenever he didn’t immediately know an answer, he took the initiative to find out and followed up with us by email. Overall, it was a very positive and professional experience.

Negative experience: The first month’s rent was paid, and we agreed on an 80% split with them. It’s now been over a month, and I’m still waiting to receive the remaining 20%! I’ve been calling every few days, only to be ignored, passed around, and told, “it’s not my fault, speak to this person!” — who then turns out to be on annual leave. Everything seemed fine until money came into play. Now no one seems able to sort it out. There’s been no follow-up to check or ensure the payment promised has been received week after week — just repeated excuses about people being off, on annual leave, or being told “next week” over and over again.

Positive experience: Very quick, professional. They understood my situation and helped me rent a flat very quickly at Chelmsford. Can’t thank them enough. They also helped a friend of mine find a flat. ----- Now I’ve vacated the rental property. The check out document from their back office sequencehome can be very upsetting, in my case deeming a professionally cleaned property as unclean/dirty, worn out carpet as stained, delaying return of your deposit and being unresponsive. But when I explained it to William H Brown rental team, they quickly sorted it out and returned my deposit in full.
Positive experience: The house buying process is pretty stressful but William H Brown was very helpful keeping things on track, particularly when solicitors were unresponsive. They chased sometimes before I even chased and they kept me in the loop. Always a professional and friendly service.

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience using William H Brown. They were the estate agents for the property we were purchasing (so we weren't even the ones paying them) and they were always on hand to provide me with an update. Negative experience: Appalling service! Was told had a viewing, was stood waiting outside for 30 minutes like a fool. I had called 3 times 2 prior to my appointment time, the first was over 30 minutes before appointment double confirming we would be attending the second 10 minutes before to see how far the agent was. Not a single person once informed me that it had been cancelled. Luckily the lady who still occupied the property was kind enough to let us that she had been informed the day before that all appointments had been cancelled and that an offer had been made and accepted. Not only have they wated my mo ey for getting the train here but I also had to take my child out of school. All because no one could be bothered to do their job and let me know!!!!

Negative experience: I cannot express how frustrated and disappointed I am with this estate agent in Chelmsford. My partner and I moved out in August and it took months for us to get our deposit back, despite countless attempts to contact them. We were consistently ignored via email and had to call once or twice a week just to get any response. Each time we were told they were "waiting for a landlord's response," but we never received any answers or updates. After months of being strung along, we threatened small claims court before Christmas, and yet STILL no deposit. It wasn’t until we spoke to the manager that we finally got some attention, and even then, they tried to shift the blame onto us for not contacting them enough, despite the fact that we had email evidence showing we had been trying to resolve this issue since October. This whole experience has been a complete nightmare and I would strongly advise others to avoid this agency. Terrible communication, unprofessional, and no regard for the tenants' time or money. Very disappointing.

Negative experience: Do not use William H Brown lettings Chelmsford as you’ll find your family and yourselves homeless….. Placed a holding deposit 2 months ago, immediately after this any professionalism disappeared completely…. Moving in date pushed back a week, no response to emails or phone calls, colleagues promising messages to be past on didn’t happen….. Moving in date then just became irrelevant to William H Brown Lettings….. Removal Company booked, time taken off work and 5pm Friday absolutely no dialogue or communication for Mondays move…. Lots of other issues but as William H Brown aren’t the property managers it’s not Jamie Houses responsibility to make you aware of these problems and issues in a timely manner…. Safety, security and integrity issues that weren’t brought to market or disclosed…. Deceitful behaviour…. 18/01/2025 let’s do an update folks…. Got a phone call today a Saturday after a busy week at work from Jamie Houses, he was very upset that I’d named him personally in this review and wanted me to delete his association with this review’s content, he didn’t care how my review sat with William H Brown and he was aware I could leave reviews as was my consumer right but he no longer wished his personal involvement to be associated with this truthful and factual review…. He didn’t want to go over old stuff like how we’d need to live on a building site for 6months at least or how our access to the road from the driveway has continually been blocked by builders vans and delivery trucks, endangering not only our lives but that of the local community, cyclists, pedestrians and other motorists, how our cars have needed new tires due to getting punctures by debris from the building site we didn’t know would occupy our existence or experience of viewing a property with William H Brown, prior to moving in and after they’d held or accepted our deposit for 2 months prior to moving in….. As renters we get we’re not very important or do legalities properly extend to people like ourselves, taking our money is okay but Jamie Houses doesn’t want to revisit our old issues…. After all William H Brown aren’t managing the property they aren’t responsible for facts or expectations of the quiet enjoyment of the properties they bring to market…. Sadly the Lettings Manager I believe isn’t ultimately or solely responsible for the last 6 months of our lives being ruined but is concerned about how naming him affects his standing or reputation ironically Jamie Houses wanted or rather demanded I remove his name from my negative review of how he, my landlord and William H Brown operate or treat their customers….. Jamie Houses wasn’t interested in our predicament currently that he delivered for us, he wasn’t interested in anything other than safeguarding his personal interests….. Thanks Jamie great work…. I’ll not be threatened or intimidated by anybody….

Fantastic experience: We sold our house through William H Brown recently and hope this feedback helps other sellers to understand that there is silver lining somewhere. We started our sale process in March - Lee Dillion from the Sales team was good - He knows how to attract sellers and buyers and is good at his job. We found a buyer immediately. Never happened with us and it was a pleasant surprise. Now, the sale should have been a simple one, it took 9-10 months and we had lost hope. Sale process with Solicitors in between can be a stressful exercise even if you think it is going well. The Manager at the Chelmsford, Ashley Moakes got us over the line to be honest. The best about it is he and I had sort of a disagreement in between, yet we somehow became really good friends during this sell and he helped us get over the line - Yes, we sold out house and have moved to where we wanted to. Ash and I shared a lot of light moments on this one afterwards. I am giving them a 5 and the reason is below: 1. Could have given up, shut it down, gone to another agency and more time - Ashley backed us up and we held on 2. Things can sometimes go sour and then turn good, This sell made us feel that 3. Communication and follow up was always good. (Sally Padrzolla kept us alive in between with all her follow ups) In short, while I am sure Ashley and team and us would never like to do this again in a similar manner - we learned our lessons on solicitors, my rating and feedback is a genuine one. Fantastic experience: I have recently used W H Brown for my mortage, more specifically Christopher Allen and this was honestly the gold star service. Chris was constantly looking for the best deals out there, was very good and responding to emails and calls and extremely friendly and helpful. Fantastic experience: A wonderful experience with William H Brown, we needed to move house urgently and Syed Termezi supported us all the way, and on the one occasion where he was unavailable the rest of the team aided all of our questions beautifully. Any concerns or fears we had regarding our situation or the time pressures we had, we were 100% reassured. Whenever we had any questions or complications with the references Syed was very quick to get back to us and resolved all our problems with speed and wonderful professionalism and in the end everything worked out great. Fantastic experience: We have recently moved and have had excellent service from William H Brown in Chelmsford. Mason and Charlotte, were first class. Very helpful always returned calls and kept us up to date on a regular basis. We have even had follow up calls making sure we didn't need any further assistance. Negative experience: Very strange company. I wouldn’t trust them selling my house. I just had a viewing for tomorrow confirmed, property in question hasn’t sold yet after a few viewings but had some offers on the table and Emma told me that the offers were over the asking price as they listed the property too cheap (which I agreed with) and that I was prepared to go over the asking price and continue with the viewing as arranged. Just as I said that, I was put on hold and told by Emma no more viewings on this property. I would be extremely unhappy if I was the seller and my estate agent was turning away chain free sensible buyers. Property in question - tabors Ave Chelmsford.
Negative experience: Probably the most unprofessional bunch I have ever come across. Jay Tarri was supposed to show us around for a property, had us booked a week in advance and showed up without a single clue about the property. Then he made us wait outside the property for 45 minutes because he couldn’t find the keys. Then he went on to offer to show us another apartment and asked us to wait 25 minutes (he had to get the keys from the office), we waited and then we got a call from him asking us to get to the postcode. We got there and he calls us to tell us he will be 15 minutes late. I complained on the official number, i think it pissed him off so he refused to show up for the viewing. He told us it will take a while still so we were forced to cancel the viewing. I don’t know if it’s racial profiling or what but we will not be using William H. Brown again. Incredibly unprofessional and rude service. What a waste of a whole day.

Fantastic experience: I have recently rented out my property and was impressed with W H Brown in Chelmsford from making my initial enquiries. Everything went very smoothly and found both Jamie House and Connor Selvey very supportive throughout the process. Highly Recommended.
Positive experience: One very rude member of staff calling out in background trying to tell me that a seller would not accept an offer I proposed, very unprofessional and rude especially as my offer was accepted!!!. The member of staff I dealt with was quite helpful and pleasant but could have made more effort in finding a garage key which was hanging up with other keys, this meant although purchasing the property I still have not seen inside the garage!!

Fantastic experience: I would definitely recommend the team At Chelmsford from Valuation through to sale and completion. My sale fell through, but within weeks my house was sold again. Sally was amazing always, available to give an update and support throughout the process.

Fantastic experience: As a first time home buyer the whole process can be pretty daunting however, I think I’ve met a mortgage broker for life. Initially spoke to a total of five mortgage brokers before proceeding with Lucy at William H Brown. A huge thank you to Lucy Swift who has been accommodating throughout the whole process. Has gone above and beyond to support and help with this confusing home ownership process. I’ve already highly recommended Lucy, and if you are going for a mortgage application and in need of a broker, I can’t recommend Lucy high enough So nice to speak to someone who speaks to you like a human being rather than a machine talking back at you. In all honesty, I needed the process really simplified. As it’s been completely new and scary territory for myself. But nice to talk to someone on a level, but also someone who is super professional. if you’re in need of a broker, Lucy Swift is the one.

Fantastic experience: I have been with WH Brown for 8 years as a landlady as I was recommended them by family friends when I was putting my home on rent. Always been satisfied however been very pleased with Ashley who has been very approachable, patient & understanding of my needs and also given me the best advice. I feel at ease when I liaise with him. Ashley is also very proactive and efficient. Recently Beth has joined the team I deal with and she has been very proactive, positive and again easy to approach. I am very grateful that on branch level I have their continued support and help. Jamie is more recent and he has been very informative with advice and honest advice to save me hassle etc. He has also been proactive in organising services.

Negative experience: Unprofessional. Reduced property price on listing ‘without’ permission and made countless errors. Very unapologetic about their mistakes. These errors affected the perceived value of our property resulting in below market rate offer. I would NOT recommend.

Fantastic experience: Had a really smooth and overall excellent experience with William H Brown. Thank you to the whole team, but in particular my mortgage adviser Rob Jones, highly recommend him as he provided the best options to fit my needs, always responded by email and text promptly and an all round nice person. Fantastic experience: We have a rental flat in Chelmsford and decided to change agency. Negative experience: I called the agent today morning about the property enquiry in Oasis Court, Chelmsford., I checked the property consists of electric stove or gas stove? He said electric and I said unfortunately not interested with electric. As soon as agent came to know about my disinterest he disconnects the call in between the call. So rude, very very rude agent in lettings team. So, I would just thought of share my experience in google reviews & trust pilot.
