Negative experience: I am disgusted at how unprofessional and patronizing the staff are here. It is clear they do not care to help with any confusion or and have such poor communication. Avoid!!

Negative experience: Very very poor agency. Avoid at all costs. You won’t regret it

Negative experience: There’s a reason letting agents have such a poor reputation, and unfortunately, my experience with Massey, particularly director Jo-Blaise Martin, has done little to change my view. My sister was due to move from Bournemouth to Brighton, with transport, furniture deliveries and everything else already arranged. The day before she was due to move in, we were told she could no longer proceed. The lack of empathy or consideration for the arrangements and costs already incurred was extremely disappointing. The tenancy agreement was only provided a couple of days before move-in, and one of the clauses was inaccurate. Although it was amended when this was raised, it was still incorrect. Our other sister, who was acting as guarantor, understandably did not want to sign an agreement containing inaccurate information. When this was raised with Jo, we were simply told it was perfectly fine. The subsequent phone call was equally frustrating. My sister was repeatedly spoken over and found Jo’s tone extremely patronising and dismissive. What should have been an exciting new chapter instead became an incredibly stressful and upsetting experience, entirely due to the way this situation was handled. I would strongly advise prospective tenants and guarantors to carefully check all paperwork before making arrangements or committing financially. Our experience has left us with a very negative impression of Massey and its management.

Fantastic experience: Really great team and agency as a whole!

Negative experience: Massey truly lives up to the bad stereotype of estate agents. I unfortunately live under a property they manage and it’s truly been an upsetting experience. When there was a leak from their property into mine and it came to the repairs they had the sketchiest contractors come over to do the repair. First the contractors complained about parking and then didn’t do the work they promised. I’ve also had to report their tenants on multiple occasions for noise and anti-social behaviour. They never apologised and somehow the tenants still live there. At times I have lived in fear of the tenants not only because of how they have treated me but other residents in the building which I have first hand witnessed. When I have emailed Massey they have passive aggressively complained about the amount of emails they have received from me and even used my own words against me when we were supposed to be working together to come up with a resolution. If you are a landlord who does not care about your property and wants the cheapest repairs and just wants the money this is the estate agent for you. This is my first home and Massey and their horrible tenants have truly ruined the joy of first time ownership for me.

Fantastic experience: I just wanted to write this review to say a massive Thank you . After receiving a terminal diagnosis i had to unexpectedly move out of my flat. Jo and the team showed nothing but kindness,Empathy and compassion. They went above and beyond to make the process as easy as could be under the circumstances they even managed a home visit with sausage rolls just to give me a hug. Once again a heart felt thank you for treating me with dignity and grace.

Negative experience: I left a review about Massey around three months ago regarding issues with confirmed viewings and poor communication. Today I attended another viewing for 14–19 Norfolk Terrace (The Abbey), and unfortunately the experience reinforced my concerns. The person conducting the viewing didn’t seem to know the property had already been occupied/let. During the viewing, he brought up my previous review, calling it “scathing,” and began challenging it, saying what I wrote wasn’t true. When I explained that it was simply my genuine experience, it was dismissed as a “misunderstanding.” When I added, “I understand the tenants have to be kind and respectful and do their part, but letting agencies have more of a responsibility,” he quickly changed the subject, offering no apology. The rental process is already stressful, and bringing this up during a viewing made it even more uncomfortable and emotionally draining. The way it was handled felt unnecessary and disrespectful. Rather than building trust and showing respect, the interaction felt dismissive. I also personally felt that people may be treated differently depending on their perceived income, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. For clarity, I definitely had a confirmed booking for this viewing, so any claim otherwise would not be accurate. Overall, the communication and attitude I experienced were extremely disappointing. It feels like the agency is unwilling to reflect on its practices and may prioritise clients based on income rather than treating applicants fairly. I hope they improve how they treat people in the future.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely brilliant, highly recommend, they were always so fast to fix issues in my flat, very professional and courteous, and also got me into the flat very quickly once I'd put an offer down. I once told them that the fridge had broken and they had me a new one installed within the week - a much better experience than I've come to expect from other agents.

Negative experience: Simply just phoned to enquire about a property being advertised for rent and the lady on the phone immediately took a blunt and judgemental attitude with me. Despite my asking about paying for 6-12 months up front - she responding with belittling remarks like this is a red flag and we don’t want people who are going to be sat at home all day in these properties. Felt like an interrogation rather than an enquiry. Lots of people struggle to provide a guarantor these days and paying rent up front as a solution is not unusual. The RED FLAG is your staff Massey. Turns out you can’t rent a property with them if you don’t 3 x the annual rent even with a guarantor and 12 months up front payment. Bizarre and discriminatory behaviour.

Negative experience: My experience with Massey Brighton has been very disappointing. The staff I dealt with came across as rude and dismissive — the tone and attitude felt discouraging and off-putting — and it genuinely feels like they only take 5-star reviews seriously. Please be better, Massey. I tried multiple times to book a viewing and kept receiving conflicting information about move-in dates. It honestly felt like they didn’t want to book me in, yet they’re quick to push people for a property without letting them view it. When I finally managed to book, the property was let — which I appreciated them informing me about — but when I booked again, they mixed up my viewing date. There seems to be a pattern of pushing people out of viewings without any clear explanation. I definitely had confirmed bookings — one for Duke Road, which was let, and one for Bedford Square — so if they deny that or claim they don’t have it in their records, it’s simply not true. Massey, please stop giving generic replies or excuses and take accountability. Improve communication and treat people with basic respect.

Fantastic experience: We had the best experience with Massey Property Services. They always were very responsive and helpful, great communication and support. Specially David, who is very kind. 100% recommended.

Negative experience: I had a viewing with a female agent who was quite dismissive and unhelpful when I asked a few basic questions about the property. Instead of providing clear answers, they responded with attitude and made me feel uncomfortable for simply trying to get information. They also brought up that I had called every time I had a viewing (I had 3 viewings in total), in a way that felt mocking and unnecesarry- as if the calls were an inconvience. I only did so because an agent from the same company had shown up late to two appointments. I was waiting in the rain and called to make sure I was at the right address and that the agent was on their way. The whole experience came across as unprofessional and lacking in basic courtesy.

Fantastic experience: I just wish to say a big thank you to the team at Massey Properties for both their professionalism and kindness when working with tenants. My experiences with them have always been easy going and co operative. they listen, and have always been supportive. from my experiences i have moved around a lot over 13 years and have worked with many different estate agents in this time. Massey has been the best.

Fantastic experience: Thanks to the Massey team, my daughter has found a wonderful house. Great condition, great location, great landlord. In Brighton, that's like finding the golden ticket. All the way through, the whole team at Masseys, but Jo and David in particular, were helpful, understanding and super responsive and reliable. My daughter was always treated with great courtesy and kindness. Who knew such letting agents existed? After many poor experiences at other firms, I couldn't recommend the team more highly. Negative experience: I rented two properties by Massey Property. First one was in a really bad state but I appreciate Jo and David to take ownership and taking things in their own hands but the rent was reduced and the balance wasn't refunded saying the landlord refused to let go of that rent this response was give after 3 months of chasing everyone. Overall it would have been a good experience if I had received proper responses at the appropriate time. I hope they improve their service with the future tenants

Fantastic experience: This is by far the best company to manage your property - they have been looking after ours for the last 12 years and have dealt with every issue promptly, professionally and with a very friendly manner. David, Jo and the team always deliver a personably, efficient service no matter how big or small the issue. Cannot recommend them highly enough!

Fantastic experience: Thankful for Massey property agency. We experienced a few bumps along the road but the team, especially Jo were very responsive, fair and always there to work through any problems. Jo is brilliant at her job and we cannot thank them all enough for their continued efforts. We felt like we were dealing with real people that cared about our living situation. Having heard multiple horror stories about other estate agents and property managers in Brighton and Hove we really lucked out finding Massey.

Fantastic experience: Can't fault these guys at all. We have been with them for over 2 years now and they are not always helpful all the time, but also ready to help fix a problem whenever there has been one. Very quick to respond to a problem and always professional when they are coming to the house, following all they should be doing.

Fantastic experience: I was in the fortunate position to live in Thailand and rent my property for the last year. I was naturally anxious as I would be so far away if issues arose. I needn't have worried. Jo and her fabulous team were recommended to me and now I know why. When I left the country my flat wasn't quite up to rental standards re the electricity and Jo over saw the whole project from sourcing and overseeing the electrician for the project as I was already in Thailand. Of course the year was a great experience, but this was completely enhanced by the service I received from Jo. If any issues arose Jo would let me know after they had been resolved. I didn't even feel like I was renting my home out as I often forgot because of the (amazing) silence from the UK. The peace of mind I had was priceless. You can probably tell I would implore anyone thinking about renting out a property to use Jo and her team. They truly are genuine in their care of you and your property. Thank you team Masseys. I got my fingers burned with the first agency I used, so it was a relief to find an agency like Massey that could be relied upon to ensure my tenants and property were well looked after while I lived away.

Negative experience: Bad agency in Brighton: yesterday I called for a semi-study and the woman who answered often laughed for no reason. Finally she told me that the studio I was talking about was available and gave me an appointment at 10am today. Being a chef I took the taxi early this morning to go to work early, cook some things, to be on time for the 10 a.m. appointment. She called me after 9 a.m. to tell me they had already rented it. This woman is an unreliable, rude, unprofessional person . Very bad company! IN ANSWER: then you should have been more clear and precise, I had asked to see that study the same day instead you laughingly suggested the next day. Everything is now very clear.

Fantastic experience: Jo and David have been nothing short of amazing throughout the whole process of letting the property. After having a terrible experience with a previous agent, this was a breath of fresh air. They dealt with any issues the tenant had quickly and effectively and always communicated throughout. Fantastic experience: I rented a studio in the city center for a year and the staff was always friendly and helpful. The Inventory was conducted by an independent person and was well written. Also, the agency have arranged for the deposit to be returned on the last day of my tenancy (I used to wait for weeks with other agencies). My rent also included the Council Tax and Water rates and that saved me a lot of money. Natalie Farrow is a lovely agent, who would always quickly respond to emails and come to the property if needed.

Fantastic experience: I had over 3 years of tenancy with this company and never had any issues in terms of my tenancy.On my exit they were fair and understanding, and recognised my efforts in making sure the place was cleaned to a decent standard.I was able to get my full deposit back. If you put effort into cleaning your accommodation, it will be fairly recognised.

Negative experience: I have the worse experience with Massey agency I have every had, They provide me 2 bedrooms flat with confirmation I paid and I provide everything they requested, I lost my deposit with my current flat because massey agency gave me confirmation, I had only 7 days to move but THEN they said SORRY the landlord wants the flat for herself which is obviously not true, I have every evidence and happy to show anyone who wants to see. Fantastic experience: I recently rented a property with Massey for 18 months and couldn't be happier with their service. From day one they were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough to help us and feel welcome. Whenever there was anything that needed fixing it was dealt with immediately and we were always kept informed. Everyone that I have dealt with over the last 18 months have always been so polite, helpful and friendly. I honestly could not recommend them enough!! Far better than any other estate agents we have used over the last 7 years living in the Brighton & Hove area!

Fantastic experience: I rented a flat through Massey for a year and was extremely happy with the service I recieved (2018-2020). Sadly the pandemic meant I had to leave Brighton but if/when I do make it back I'll be going straight back to the team at Massey to help me find a new place. Having popped into Massey's office once a month as a tenant to buy my electricity it was obvious to me that the friendly but small team at Massey's handles a lot of different properties and represents a lot of different landlords across Brighton and Hove and afar. Some landlords are of course more responsive and supportive than others and I think this 'sometimes luck of the draw' may explain the few less positive google reviews here. But the fact there remains a pretty even balance of positive reviews from both tenants and landlords does reflect the positive experience I personally had and why I'm happy to recommend Massey. I always found the Massey team to be friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area and what you can get for your budget. And when I had to move out they returned my deposit quickly and without question. A+ Thanks Jo and all the team! Possible useful advice for others like me. My approach as a tenant: The previous tenants of my flat had done an ok clean and the bathroom ceiling had had a fresh lick of paint but when I moved into the flat I fully expected to clean it myself and I didn't hesiate to fix the driping tap myself, clean the fridge, descale the loo and buy new lightbulbs. I also felt the need to replace the old and worn material in the pre-existing window blinds (experience tells me that expecting a landlord to do these kinds of things for you is usually a waste of time so I just fully expect to do them myself). On the day I moved in I took photos of every room and meter readings, and recorded any marks or damage left over from the previous tenant. Massey provided an inventory form as part of the lease contract which I filled in but I also kept a digital photo record of everything just in case I'd ever need it (which I didn't in the end). Massey's communication was great and they did everything they said they would. I never experienced damp in my flat but I know lots of people do in properties around Brighton by the sea. For that reason, I would always recommend creating a photo record of a property on day one when you move in. Then if damp or a similar issue does arise over time your photo record will genuinely improve your ability to communicate any change/problem to the Massey team and help them in turn communicate it to a landlord for you. I hope you turn out to be as fortunate with your home as I was!

Fantastic experience: Not rented through them but seem like a genuinely caring team. I had run out of electricity and my own agency was shut and jo said they used the same card at masseys so drove to my house on a Sunday morning to see if it worked.

Negative experience: Worst estate agents ever. They put up the price of my rent less than 24 hours before contract renewal. When i moved out, they tried to take my whole deposit to pay for repairs of things that were already broken when i moved in. Cowboys. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Jo is the worst one of all. She lies about everything constantly. She's just a terrible human being with no soul.

Fantastic experience: After a poor experience with other letting agencies (I've been renting in Brighton for 12 years) I was a little apprehensive about moving into a new property. Luckily Massey Property services were absolutely fantastic. If something needed fixing, they fixed it, if I had a question, they promptly answered it. They were very professional and I would happily recommend them to anyone.

Negative experience: Extremely poor customer service. Agent was running late while we were waiting for over 15 minutes and did not bother to even give us a courtesy call. Called their office and was told that he'll be there in 5 minutes but as soon as we mentioned if he is not here in the next 5 minutes we will leave, we were told that it's best to cancel it as he is the other side of town.

Negative experience: These people are cowboys. Their properties are a state which they don't bother maintaining. They have lousy opening hours and require you to buy electricity cards only from them. They seldom answer any calls and when they do are very rude.

Fantastic experience: Really good agency! Never caused a problem. They had no problems with my occupation (student). I lived in a old studio, so of course there would be some maintenance problem, but they always helped me. For instance, if I told them something wasn't working, it was either replaced right away (like under 2 days) or got fixed within 24 hours. Sadly, I had to move out and I did not have any problem getting my deposit. Really nice people and easy to talk to! Really impressed.

Walked across town to find them on the recommendation of a friend, and in the space of two hours had found the perfect flat that I was able to move into within days. Service delightful and from a real human who is genuinely interested in what they are doing and will have an actual conversation with you. Forget everything you know about estate agents, the bar has been significantly raised. EDITED TO ADD actually I want to gush some more. I was even given a lift to viewings by Jo. And the friend who recommended Massey to me has lived in a flat managed by them for a while now and could not recommend them enough.

Fantastic experience: I rented a studio from Massey properties (Western Road, Hove) and had the most lovely stay. I worked with Jo mostly but did have opportunity to work with rest of the team too. I believe them to be most professional and courteous. They were very prompt with my few maintenance requests. They went out of their way to help me out on various occasions. In fact, they even returned my security deposit well before the 15 days...I just never had any issues with them. If anything, they made my life easier specially when a lot was going on with me personally...they are just absolutely wonderful! Given the opportunity, I would love to work with them anytime as my first preference. Thanks for everything Jo and rest of the Massey Property team! You rock!! :-)

On the very rare occasions I had queries or issues with the house they were dealt with immediately with very little disruption to me. Fantastic experience: I have rented from various agents and private landlords in the 16 years that I have lived in Brighton and can honestly say that I have never received service as good as I do from Massey from any previous landlords. My aerial was damaged in the recent storms. I rang Massey on Friday afternoon and they sent a repair man round the next morning! They are friendly and efficient and I always recommend them to friends who are house hunting!
