Negative experience: A truly awful company with awful staff! Patronising, dismissive and totally unhelpful! Avoid dealing with them and their terrible properties at all costs. --Further to your response. Firstly, who is Darren? And secondly, thank you for further demonstrating to everyone your childish and petulant behaviour. I was a guarantor for my daughter who had the misfortune of dealing with your office. I am a member of the NRLA and I can promise you that I will never be stepping inside your office.

Negative experience: I was a tenant at this property and this agency did not care about us at all. Our house was full of mould for practically the entire time, which they were aware of and it took these people over a year to deal with it. However when it came to dealing with meaningless nonsense like removing a shoe rack under the stairs for no reason, so that we had no where to put our shoes, they did that with extreme haste. Never using them again.

A.T. Norton Published on Google

Negative experience: I wouldn’t even give this agency one star, as they seem to think students are easy targets to scam. My daughter and two of her friends rented a place from them last year, and it was in an awful condition. When we received the keys, the house was dirty from top to bottom — the toilet even had human waste in it. The bathroom was mouldy, and the kitchen counter, cooker, and extractor fan were greasy. There were also significant damp issues in the living room. We took photos and contacted Townsend before the girls actually moved in. In response, Townsend told my daughter and her friends that the house had been professionally cleaned, but when we came back, we saw that very little had changed. My daughter and her friends ended up cleaning the property themselves just to make it liveable. We even had to purchase a new lampshade for my daughter’s room because the old one was covered in dust, and she suffers from allergies. The damp issue in the living room was never resolved, but the girls made the house more livable and turned it into a home. We noticed that whenever a problem with the property arose, despite many email conversations, Townsend were very reluctant to act and their responses were extremely slow. For example, the garden fence fell down in November 2024, and the next-door neighbour was very aggressive about it. Yet, Townsend couldn’t get anyone to fix it before January 2025. When the girls decided to move into different accommodation, they left the property much cleaner than it had been when they received it. They expected to receive the deposit within 8 days of returning the keys to Townsend. However, Townsend came up with an excuse, claiming to have found crumbs on the kitchen counter and a single strand of hair, and told the girls they would each be charged £90 for professional cleaning. When we shared the before-and-after photos, Townsend still insisted on charging the amount and is continuing to withhold the deposit to this day. After reading some of the other reviews here, it’s clear that they particularly target students and impose extortionate cleaning charges with no evidence to justify them. Furthermore, the check-in and check-out reports of the property are not comparable, as the former report is very general whilst the latter was very specific. For Townsend to use photos of dirty areas at check out as proof that the property had been left in a worse condition to when the tenants moved in, they would need to show the same area spotless, at check in - no such photos exist. The unclean areas indicated at check out will have been in this state since before the tenancy started. Further to Townsend's rebuttal, I have included some of the original photos taken immediately after the "professional" cleaning.

Update: Dear A Norton, We will not post photos on here of the checkout for your daughters property as we would not want to invade her privacy and to do so would be petty and unnecessary . The photos you have posted were taken before the cleaners immediately re-attended to address the issues found on the first day of the tenancy. They apologised as they missed some things and they rectified it.

We can confirm that this end of tenancy deposit dispute was taken through the deposit dispute process via My Deposits using their alternative dispute resolution process and they agreed with us that further cleaning was needed and they awarded a deduction for cleaning.
We wish your daughter all the best for the future.

I have read your review and I am aware of the property you daughter was renting through us. I am sorry to hear that you feel this way as I can ensure you we certainly do not 'scam' tenants at the end of their tenancy and do want to ensure that any deposit deductions and fair and reasonable.

When the tenancy started, it was reported that further cleaning was required. You contacted us to report this and we asked a professional cleaning company to attend and property and clean through as necessary, which they did. This was done at the landlords expense and this then set the level of cleanliness for the tenants to return the property to the landlord.

When we return a deposit to tenants, we have a check out report carried out. The check out report mentions cleaning issues throughout the property. Some examples of this include dusty skirting boards, light shades and radiators, unclean floors, appliances and furniture and greasy kitchen cupboard doors. We also found when moving beds away from the walls that no cleaning had been carried out behind the beds. As the property was cleaned for the tenants when they moved in and further cleaning was required after the tenancy, a deduction was proposed. The proposed deduction is a contribution towards the total cleaning invoice for the property. The deposit is held by the deposit scheme, not Townsends and the scheme rules are followed by Townsends.

Regarding maintenance issues, when the tenants reported any issues in the property the Landlord was contacted in the first instance in a timely manner. As the Landlord carries out the majority of works themselves, Townsends are not permitted to send contractors out until either the Landlord advises that they will attend or they instruct us to ask a third party contractor to attend. The tenants were always kept updated on works and the timeframe, and notified of Landlord or contractor visits. I can also assure you that emails and phone calls received by the tenants were responded to by Townsends quickly, so we strongly refute your claims that Townsends were 'reluctant to act and their responses were extremely slow'; this is simply not the case and it is not how Townsends operate. The issues reported at the start of the tenancy were quickly addressed, whilst providing the tenants with confirmation that these had been passed onto the Landlord along with updates on how they were to be dealt with.

In relation to your point about the fence; this was first reported to us on 25th November with the works being completed by the 16th January. This is not an untimely manner for non-urgent works to be carried out, especially given the time of year and that contractors generally have very busy schedules.

Negative experience: My daughter approached Townsends to view a property in Falmouth for her final year at Uni. Townsends would not consider an application unless the prospective tenant viewed the property. That meant a 550 mile round trip, £100 in fuel and a day off to drive there and back for a 10 minute viewing. My daughter wrote a comprehensive covering letter for the application then waited 5 days to be told by a representative of Townsends she had not been successful because "the whole selection process is actually a lucky dip". All that effort, time and cost to find out that viewing the property first and saying yes you would like it is no guarantee at all. Sharp practice by Townsends and no real reason to be there in person.

Townsends
Townsends

Dear Andrew,

We appreciate that you feel frustrated that Hannah was not successful with her application. We do expect people to view the properties they are interested in, so that they can make an informed decision and so that we can meet them to see whether they would be suitable for the property and the landlord.
An offer of a viewing does not mean an offer to rent the property.

We hope that Hannah is successful in finding a property, I am sure that any reputable agent will expect an applicant to view a property before being allowed to apply, and any application does not mean the application will be successful.

Lauren Bint Published on Google

Negative experience: The single WORST letting agents I have ever had the displeasure to come across. I moved from up country having no time to view the place and when I arrived they had rented me a completely different room. I never got the chance to view it and when I arrived the mattress was broken along with the bed and they had told me they wouldn't replace it because it's perfectly fine. So I replaced the mattress at my own cost just for the bed to do the same thing to my new mattress. Upon moving out they wouldn't agree to me leaving early even if I paid the rent in full for the month of my notice and then rang me to try to push me to move out sooner. And finally upon my leaving inspection they have proposed deductions for debris on the floor that I hoovered myself the day before I left the property. And paid for a new coat hook to be installed that was broken upon arrival The customer care team are awful I would advise ANY OTHER tenancy agents other than these. I have shared houses and rented for 10 years and have always been praised on the way in which I leave the property and have NEVER had any deductions. This letting agency hold a standard that is impossible to meet so you will almost definitely lose some or all of your deposit if anything is left out of place. Avoid avoid avoid

Townsends
Townsends

Dear Lauren,

I am disappointed to read your review.

As the late Queen famously said "recollections may vary".

You missed out on an identical property in the building because your requested move in date was too far in the future, and the landlord had another application that wanted to move in sooner. As my colleague was kind and thoughtful, she offered you another solution, which you happily took - an identical room with identical furniture.
You didn't like the mattress, there was nothing wrong with it, but it didn't suit you.

You did not leave the property clean. It was given to you clean and it is expected that you leave a property in the same state of cleanliness as it was given to you. You agreed a cleaning deduction of £44.40. There were no other proposed deductions.

Although we did not have a good experience with you as a tenant, we do still wish you all the best for the future.

Lilly Published on Google

Negative experience: Update to response My child was a tennant through your agency, I was guarantor. The students had a large amount of their deposit withheld, for cleaning fees, even after the inspection said a light dusting was only required. This review is no different to the reviews others have left. This company is corrupt. My child rented a property whilst at uni, we cleaned the property, purchased new mop / bucket cleaning supplies etc. The house was spotless. When the letting agent checked the property they said it was cleaned to a high standard and maybe a light dust needed. I took before and after photos, the property was disgusting when my child moved in. After the students moved out, Townsend's withheld £200.00 of their deposit for 'cleaning fee'. Which is illegal under the 2019 Tenancy Act. I requested their after photos, proving their evidence of the standard of cleaning needed, which they didn't have and said new tenants were in the property. The property is a tiny 2 bedroom house, with mould. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope other students who rent from you are aware how you behave. And, as others who have left reviews, this seems normal practice with this company. We started proceedings with solicitors, the costs involved are very high, unfortunately.

Townsends
Townsends

Dear Lilly,
I am shocked and dismayed to read your review. We have reviewed all of our properties and can confirm that we do not manage ANY 2 bedroom student houses.
We very strongly refute your claims.
We do not charge fees to tenants.

If your child had been a tenant of ours, they would have received an inventory, regular property inspections, guidance from us near the end of the tenancy explaining how a property should be left at the end of the tenancy and a check out report.
If there are cleaning issues at the end of a tenancy, a tenant can reasonably be expected to cover the cost of a cleaning invoice. This is not a breach of the tenant fees act.

Negative experience: My friends and I rented a student property from Townsend for the academic year 2021/22. We have been very disappointed with their treatment of us. Reported issues take weeks/months to be fixed, which would be understandable is they had a system that reflected problems in priority order but instead fix minor aesthetic issues while we were left with a broken washing machine for 4 weeks, a broken shower for 9 weeks and numerous other issues with key appliances. It was only after multiple phone calls and emails from multiple house members that our issues were logged let alone fixed. At the beginning of our tenancy we reported faults with the house from the previous tenants and we were told our oven was broken, a few days later someone came to clean the oven and we told the cleaner that it was broken so not to clean it. Townsend then sent the cleaning lady back after telling her that we had lied about the oven and that they had no idea why we thought it was broken. The staff don’t seem to note down problems or communicate with each other and then when we called again to follow up, they claim not to know anything about it. Perhaps this is genuine incompetence or more likely just unorganised staff who couldn’t care less. They are always very polite but this is no constellation as they manage to blame contractors or landlords for every issue that is brought up. There is no accountability for any problem. Other students have had similar issues to us but it seems to be justified each time by saying that this is simply the student experience. If this is the student experience we should be paying student discounted prices rather than £2500 a month. Another ongoing issue that we have faced with Townsend is them giving house keys to contractors without first telling us. On multiple occasions we have woken up to unknown men in our house and panicked before them telling us who they were and why they were in our kitchen. This was reported to Townsend who apologised and said it wouldn’t happen again. Despite our complaints on multiple occasions, strangers still let themselves in throughout the year. We also reported mould multiple times and were told to just clean it off the wall. Students are treated very poorly and aren’t taken seriously simply because we are students. Would not recommend this service to anyone hoping for a relaxed and comfortable tenancy.

Thank you for your review.

We are very sorry that you feel this way and we appreciate that you have had some major maintenance issues this year.

The leak issue that you experienced in your 2nd bathroom turned out to be a much more serious issue than first thought. We appreciate that you have had to wait a long time to get the issue resolved, this is partly due to needing a builder unexpectedly due to uncovered damage and a faulty shower tray being delivered twice. . We also appreciate that there has been some miscommunication as we gave contractors your number to request access, but you were away and were unable to answer or respond to the calls. We value our contractors and do not blame them, but we have asked them to be mindful of giving the required 24 notice to tenants before coming into the property, even if the works they are doing is ongoing, as you had raised this. All of the works orders sent out to contractors have a contact number for tenants so that the contractor can arrange access directly with the tenants.

When we realised that the work was going to be intrusive, we arranged for you all to receive a goodwill gesture from the landlord, even though there were only 2 people living in the property at the time. After our conversation the other day, we also agreed to approach your landlord again to see if a further goodwill gesture can be given and we will continue to work towards getting the issue resolved.
I understand there were some difficulties as the beginning of your tenancy as you raised some maintenance with your washing machine , but then unfortunately there was covid in the house and contractors were unable to attend.

We wish you all the best for the future.

Negative experience: I've always thought of a one-bedroomed flat as a flat with one bedroom. Apparent a one bedroomed flat is actually a flat with a living area which has a bed in it. Still charging as though it is a one-bedroomed flat and not a studio flat though.

Negative experience: I am very unimpressed by Townsends and would strongly recommend people avoid dealing with them if possible. I rented a property for almost a year and kept it in good condition. Repair work had to be carried out during my tenancy, which meant I was unable to use part of the property. I was cooperative throughout, made no fuss and no compensation was offered or received. When leaving the property, Townsends' agent came round to inspect the property. I asked if there were any issues that needed addressing in order to ensure I received my full deposit back. I was told there weren't any. However, after leaving the property, they raised issues specifically about things that I had asked about during the inspection. Because of this, they took weeks to return my deposit and this was after they made deductions for things that would normally be regarded as general wear and tear. Save yourself the stress and hassle and rent with someone else!

Townsends

Dear Rachel,

I am sorry that you feel you have not been treated fairly. We appreciate any feedback, whether positive or negative.

We do not feel that it is unreasonable to ask for a £10 contribution to redecoration.
With regards to the other agreed deduction for the gardening, we can only try to negotiate between tenants and landlords, we can't make decisions on our landlords' behalf.
Your landlord did also reimburse you for the extra oil you left, and there were no deductions for cleaning.

The checkout was carried out by an independent inventory company to make the process fair for both tenant and landlord. They report everything they see, and sometimes cleanliness issues are brought up, however, we do not always propose deductions for this.

The whole process, including the checkout, second checkout, negotiations between you and the landlord and the agreement between you and the landlord took 13 days. Once it was agreed you were paid back your deposit withing 24 hours.

We thought you were good tenants and we wish you all the best for the future.

Negative experience: Customer service was quite poor, Louise came off as condescending and had a poor temperament. After speaking with her on the phone, it just leaves a bad taste. Extremely accusatory and did not speak politely to tenant at all. Important to note, this does not apply for the other lady who initially picked up the line and seemed more understanding and polite, this applies to my experience with Louise. Edit: As requested, I will leave the details of the conversation here. The situation revolves around a broken window which I was accused of forcing open. The initial incident happened 3 months ago. During the phone call I had with them, I was trying to explain that the landlord had previously informed me that the window was supposed to be a fire exit window. This is important, because assuming it's a fire exit window, it should be able to fit a person through. I was also trying to explain that it was rusty and that it would make no sense for me to 'force' open the window, as there would be no purpose to that. Notably, the landlord also attempted to "fix" the hinges using a wrench that only further bent the hinges. During the call, I was trying to have a conversation with Louise about the situation in which I am getting charged £60 for the window fix. Naturally, as anyone would, I would like to know the details and provide my side. However, my main issue during the call, was that Louise seemed dismissive of my points, and disregarded my perspective. She also seemed in a rush to end the call and basically said the call was wasting her time. Furthermore, she repeatedly accused me of 'forcing the window open' to try and establish it was a fire exit. However, I did not force it open, and in actuality, I was using the fire exit as a point to say how the window should be able to be opened wide. Her attitude to end the conversation was made more apparent, when she said that whatever I said would make no difference and that she was "expecting the full payment within seven days". To emphasise, in my main review, my main issue was not "complaining about the charges", but my main issue was the condescending tone and accusatory way I was spoken to as a student and customer. I was incited to write this review due to the bad taste left in the aftermath of the conversation, and how I think a customer should not be spoken to in such a manner as to condescend them. This review would not have been made if I was spoken to politely and accommodatingly in an understanding manner as opposed to an accusatory one.

Townsends

Dear Aaron
I would invite you to reconsider your review, or at least leave all the facts of your conversation. Including that your conversation was regarding, an invoice that you are liable for, following forcing a window.

Negative experience: A decent letting agent during tenancy, but when I moved out they appeared to ignore their own check in report that documented original faults & problems with property caused before I moved in. They started an attempt to make deductions from my deposit for this, so I challenged them for details with ref to check in & check out reports, stating I was happy for it to go through legal system dispute process to get my deposit back in full. They subsequently backed down returning my deposit as a "goodwill gesture", not much goodwill about it as it was legally my money. If you use Townsend be extremely careful documenting condition at move in & be prepared to fight hard for your deposit returning at end of tenancy. Shameless money grabbing of deposit regardless of how well you look after the property.

Negative experience: Took a month to replace broken fridge drawers, mould was growing on furniture when we arrived in our student accommodation and still has not been replaced causing my friend with respiratory issues to suffer to make these matters complicated Townsend has not responded back with our concerns. Our oven was broken and took a couple of weeks for the landlord to replace it as he tried to say it was fine and brushed off our concerns as we voiced it with him. It takes so long to get stuff replaced or repaired. Along with that the same landlord owns the next door house where there is a hole in the ceiling and refuses to fix it. Apparently he owns several properties across Cornwall so I find it oblivious on why it takes so long to fix this. I will happily take this to Cornwall council as it is a violation our health and safety. Months before the tenancy began, my parents had to get rid of our dog, Aka as they could not give her the time and attention. I begged with Townsend that I was willing to pay for any incurring charges of pet insurance for the house yet they said that they have my sympathies but they could not allow it hence I had to give her away, this has been devastating for me and could have been avoided if they allowed me to pay for any charges of pet insurance. I highly wouldn’t recommend to rent with them as a student as they’re inattentive of students concerns and health and safety!

Positive experience: When i first needed a property in falmouth townsends were really quick to sort me out. The house was pretty old meaning the wood windows were flakey/mouldy, the wood floor was stained and the ouse had a general delapidated feel too it. Also there was a small yard and deck. As time went on and we started to have inspections, no matter how well we cleaned the house townsends would never ever be happy with it. The house would probably look tidy if it wasn't already falling apart ? you cant hoover that away ? and aswell the fact that landlords expect you to do the gardening but don't want to provide you with anything. oh and one of the windows in the porch wouldn't close the whole two years we were there so theres rats in there now. other than that pretty sound

Negative experience: STUDENTS AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! 3mb wifi between 4 students, an intrusive landlord and attempts to charge for pre-existing stains at the end of tenancy; and im just getting started

Negative experience: All my friends have had a horrible experience with Townsend and I thought we would be okay since during the year they had been good at responding to us and dealing with our issues in the house. They were also always commending us on how clean the house was during every inspection. However the real issue comes when you leave. When we first came to the house, it wasn't super clean but we had no issue with cleaning it ourselves. There was stains in the cupboard, rubbish left in the garden and the rooms were extremely dusty and window sills were mouldy and gross. But we decided to clean it ourselves as we did not think it was such a big deal. Yet when when we left, they felt it necessary to charge £75 to clean the house, for tiny crumbs on the work top, the same window sills we came into the house with and a streaky mirror by the cooker which was greasy when we first arrived. This agency makes their money by charging students and the end of the year for "cleaning" at the end of the year. Don't sign a contract with them because they are deceitful and sneaky and think they can get away with it because they are dealing with students.

Dear Sadia, I would like to understand more about your experience. If you'd be kind enough to email me [email protected]
We try to keep costs down and you only get the invoices from the contractors, after reviewing the photos from before and after your tenancy, I'm afraid that the cleaning costs are justified. Also where effort was made and therefore item such us professional oven cleaners were not required. I can't put photos on here but will happily forward these over to you.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, Mrs Warr. Having reviewed your file, we would dispute your comments, have not earnt money from your dispute and in fact have lost money as a result of your persistent complaints. We work very hard on behalf of our landlords and tenants to ensure that everyone is dealt with fairly and equitably. In your case, you have alleged that your house has a damp problem in the bathroom. We have managed this house for many years and this is the first time it has been raised by any occupant. However, we took your complaint seriously and have sent four contractors to inspect your complaint. On every visit from every contractor, the heating was not on despite it being Winter and the temperature being in single figures outside. Clothes were hung up for drying on curtain rails and condensation was streaming down the inside of windows and doors as well as your bathroom walls which are more susceptible to condensation when the room is not ventilated and the heating off. You would not let our contractors wipe the damp off the walls in your bathroom, citing that you did not want to use chemicals in the house. To clarify, your heating needs to be turned on when it is cold and your windows still need to be slightly ajar to ventilate and let out some of the moisture in the internal air. Your dampness is caused by your lifestyle management and your lack of willingness to help yourselves manage the situation. If you would like further information on Condensation Management, please do not hesitate to contact us. Regards, All @ Townsends.

Positive experience: Properties are on the expensive side, especially with the non refundable application fee, however, I have rented privately with far worse estate agents and landlords. Townsends are good in that they get any problems fixed within a reasonable time, and (for students) water/energy/WiFi bills are included in the rent, making life a little easier.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We do not have a non-refundable application fee as these are illegal, but we do try our hardest to make sure things run as smoothly as possible! Best regards, All @ Townsends.

Fantastic experience: Got a great property to rent through Townsend, always such a quick response when jobs are needed doing on our place (freezer, boiler etc) Recently our current landlord decisioned to sell our property meaning we would have to leave. Luckily we had Roger from Townsend who took our case in such a professional and courteous manner; my partner is heavily pregnant (due in a few days of writing this) and he was extremely considerate regarding this. End result was that another landlord has purchased our property so can stay where we are for the future. I would highly recommend Townsends as they really look after their tenants; I don’t know about others experiences but for us they have been perfect, easy to communicate with and understanding about our personal life situations.

Hi Nathan, thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We do try our hardest to sell tenanted properties to our large portfolio of landlords and fortunately it worked well in your case. Best wishes to your family, All @ Townsends.

Negative experience: I was unfortunate enough to have my tenancy transferred to this company when the previous agents i signed up with ceased trading and upon checking the reviews,i was quite concerned about how they run. I had no problems with Tidmans and they acted very professional and done what they were supposed to but unfortunately Townsends don't follow the same professionalism. House inspections were carried out in my previous home without my knowledge or any form of correspondence which violates the housing act of 1988. I had potential new tenants and a member of staff from Townsends turn up again with no prior warning or even a courtesy message as i was moving my items out of the property. They rob money off the deposit and use dodgy cleaning staff to fabricate extra hours for cleaning.I spent a solid day and a half cleaning the house to a very high standard and it was immaculate in comparison to when i first moved in. An honest and professional cleaner could have gone over any small areas i missed in approximately an hour or perhaps two at a push and not the six hours she claimed for.I caught the cleaner out with her lies and she then refused to take my calls until i rang Townsends who also agreed that six hours seemed very excessive but then provided her with the exact same story that she passed on to me word for word. If you are a potential new tenant for this lot then be very very careful because they will extract the urine and take what money they can from you. AVOID!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We inspect our properties regularly, providing tenants with the required notice, as it gives landlords peace of mind in ensuring their properties are being upkept to an appropriate level and it also gives tenants a chance to share any concerns with ourselves. We understand that you felt aggrieved that the independent inventory clerk conducting your checkout advised that a clean was necessary. Please rest assured that this was not a decision made by ourselves but an independent decision taken by comparing the cleanliness of the property when you moved in to the cleanliness of the property when you left. We wish you the best for the future. Regards, Townsends Management Team.

Positive experience: They tried to charge us £150 for 'rubbish removal and cleaning services' when we left, despite our house being completely spotless and far cleaner than when we moved in, and having no evidence for these charges. We also had constant problems with water leaking through the ceiling which the landlord who lived hundreds of miles away refused to fix until it began pouring through. My bedroom also had no fire door seperating it from the annexe kitchen behind. There was just two wooden doors with lumps of flammable polystyrene between them and a 4 inch gap between the door and frame. Despite constant complaints this was never fixed and I had to nail the loose door to the wall myself to stop it falling on me in my sleep. Communication with Townsend was very good and polite but no use trying to get anything fixed if you're a student, their landlords just fob you off despite making £2000+ off each house ( we paid 400-425 per room) Still one of the best student agencies and houses in Falmouth which says a lot...

Fantastic experience: We have been with Townsend as landlords for over 10 years and have always been happy with their services as a letting agent but when we came to sell recently we had our first experience of them as estate agents. I have to say that this has been a good experience from our first dealings with Anna through to the day to day handling of our sale by Dan; we have always been kept informed of what was happening and never had to chase them for answers. If we did raise queries they were answered promptly and efficiently and nothing was too much trouble even to the extent of taking final meter readings for us on the day we completed ! All of this with fees a lot lot cheaper than other agents in the area. Thanks to Matt and all his team, we heartily recommend them.

Fantastic experience: My 80 year old Mum is just about to take on a tenancy with Townsend. From the initial call I made with the company I knew I was dealing with professionals who looked after their clients. My main dealings have been with Dan and Sophie who to me are outstanding employees. They have both been patient and understanding especially when I have been asked to undertake paperwork online(I am not particulary computer friendly) I feel very confident that if my Mum does have any problems that they will be resolved quickly and efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Townsends

Fantastic experience: We rented with this agency after the agents we were with retired. Townsend first visit to our rented property went very well and we were thanked for looking after the house. We had 3 inspections during our time with them and the staff were always very friendly and seemed like they really appreciated us there. When the owners decided to sell I had a phone call from a very kind genuine member of Townsend. The staff were all so kind and as we looked after the property we received our full deposit back. We would recommend Townsend and all the staff we meet were very friendly such lovely people.

I am very sorry to read your review. We manage numerous properties and act promptly on any maintenance raised by tenants. I do not know the circumstances surrounding your particular issue but it sounds as though there was more to it. We also need Landlords permissions to have certain works undertaken therefore decisions are not always in our control. We would be more than happy to look into this should you wish.

Fantastic experience: Really was well looked after from start to finish. Was made to feel very valued on every property inspection and was treated kindly and fairly when I needed some assistance with moving which required dipping into my deposit. Nothing was done underhandedly when they realised i wasnt able to return and complete the last part of the checkout . They took care of it all and made it all easy and calm for me. Of all the agencies I have dealt with through living nationwide because of work, these were not the biggest and not the most professional (on terms of corporate blandness), but they were by far the most approachable and kind. I would not hesitate to use them again when I return to the area.

Fantastic experience: In my experience Townsends are a great company, I wish I had chosen them to look after my property right from the beginning. In the short time I have been with them they have carried out inspections and highlighted any works that need doing instead of just letting problems get worse and ultimately cost more to put right in the long run.(unlike another well known local company) The contractor’s that they use have been in my experience Excellent, responded quickly and work around my tenants needs. What more do you need from a letting agency... And I’m sure that they will carry on looking after my property’s for may years to come.

Positive experience: I found myself with Townsend due to them taking over my previous estate agents. I had a decent amount of viewings and got a sale secured in a reasonable time. This fell through at the last minute due to a problem with the house but Dan managed to find a cash buyer and eventually we got there. Dan was spot on in communication and did his best to get things moving. The only slight thing that disappointed me was the fact they wouldn’t honour the special offer I had agreed with the previous estate agent and conveniently the paperwork was lost. If it wasn’t for this I would have left 5 stars.

Nikki Edwards Published on Google

Negative experience: When your in a property, then can be half decent and helpful. However, after giving notice to leave the property, they become rude (even swearing at me during one of many phone calls), they take huge amounts of money from your deposit unfairly (getting charged for carpet cleaning & flea treatment even though we didn't own a pet) & without knowledge (took many emails and phone calls to even get a list of deductions & we were not informed of these before they were carried out) & when we finally got what was left of our deposit, it was almost 5 weeks since we had vacated the property. We will be avoiding any properties advertised by townsend in the future, undoubtably!

Negative experience: Do not fall for the guise of 'no deposit' unless you take extensive photos they will try and charge you for pre-existing problems with the house when you try and move out. They will try any means necessary to get money from you. The rooms are overpriced and they are unwilling to fix any problems, especially ones they have caused. Another example of a company thinking they can take advantage of students.

Negative experience: House wasn't clean when we moved in. I sent them an e-mail that day to say so. When we moved out (after 3 years of being loyal customers) the house was cleaner than I moved in and they charged £400 to clean the house. No justification, just lies. Sure whoever owns the place is a millionaire by now though. So swings and roundabouts!
